Compelling plot, full of gripping twists and turns
Oh, my goodness, I just loved this book! If I could give it more than 5 stars I would! It has the most compelling plot I have read in a very long time. I know how much work Ms. Corry must have put into writing this. It is most complex, but at the same time, it is easy to follow. It would make a fabulous movie. From the very beginning, it was full of "will she or won't she" that kept me on the edge of my chair. And it's full of twists and turns. Just when you think you have reached a particular denouement, the author gets the reader going again with another gripping development. This is the first book by Jane Corry that I have read and I am definitely going to read more.

4.5 Stars - Don't miss this one !
JUNE 2020 : 4.5 STARS. In Poppy Page's mind, there are two types of women in this world: those who are faithful to their husband and those who are not. Until now, Poppy has never questioned which she was. Until Matthew Gordon, an old friend, returns.Prior books Blood Sisters (2017) 4 Stars and I Looked Away (2019) 3 Stars. I loved the stead pace of this book with the tension slowly rising. Interesting plot of how closely connected the main character Poppy was to her mother-in-law Betty. Liked how Betty's past was chronicled throughout the book. Betty hid things so well in her marriage, no one ever knew or suspected. Sad that Betty was never freed from her past. Sometimes we just have new beginnings......

Another sure-fire winner by Jane Corry!
Poppy Page is married, with two teenage girls, has an exciting career as a casting agent for extras, and a godsend of a mother-in-law, Betty, to help out. Sure, her marriage is a little stale and ordinary, and both her and her husband, Stuart, work a lot, and hardly see each other, but no relationship is perfect right? Then, Poppy bumps into her first love – Matthew Gordon – at a work Christmas party, and all her old feelings come rushing back. Poppy isn't a cheater, but Matthew's seductive charms have always been her downfall. But Poppy never thought letting Matthew back into her life would lead to a screech of train brakes and a body on the tracks.Engrossing, nail-biting, and emotionally-investing. As the title states, I Made a Mistake is exactly that, how a single action can destroy your life as you know it, the regrets and guilt associated with that, and how much you wish you could take it back. Another prominent theme is the enormous misogynist pressure society places on women to marry and have children resulting in them sometimes settling for a less than ideal husband. Deals with some heavy topics such as domestic abuse, post-natal depression, obsession and stalking.I would categorize this crime mystery as more domestic drama than psychological thriller, so it's a bit different from Jane Corry’s norm, but nonetheless this was a fantastic read with several didn't-see-that-coming twists, and I can see this storyline appealing to a more mainstream audience. We are presented with two POV's, Poppy in the present, and Betty narrating her life story to Poppy in the form of a letter. Both timelines were engrossing and surprising and collided together in shocking and unexpected ways. This author continues to do no wrong in my book, and I eagerly await whatever she writes next.I'd like to thank Netgalley, Penguin Books UK, and Jane Corry for the e-ARC.

I Made a Mistake
Whoa. Get ready to expect the unexpected. It seemed each chapter brought us another plot twist, and I was hooked from the beginning. One of my favorite style of books to read is where past and present intersect, and we get the present from Poppy and her mistake that derails her marriage, and also the past from Poppy’s mother in law, Betty. Betty details in a letter to Poppy how societal norms were when she was growing up and especially her marriage and becoming a mother. I was utterly fascinated reading Betty’s section, and her retelling of the past made me want to talk to others about specifically women, motherhood and marriage. There are a lot of moving parts to this story but everything kept me fully invested and toward the end, my eyebrows just kept raising in shock each time another twist popped up. Highly recommend, would be a great choice for a book club pick also.I received a review copy

A compelling domestic thriller
Two women, two life stories, one common mistake.Poppy and Betty are united by events that shaped their lives and changed who they are now. Their lapse in judgement came at a cost but who had to pay the ultimate price?Poppy, a successful businesswoman, is living a content life until a blast from her past disturbs the peace. Running into Matthew, her first love, after a 20-year absence brings back memories and long suppressed feelings. Full of inner turmoil and anger, she does something she will forever regret. Someone dies a horrific death and now Poppy is interrogated during a trial. What is she guilty of?By contrast, Betty’s life of a working-class young woman during the late sixties and early seventies was very different from that of her daughter-in-law’s. Her fascinating background story is revealed in letters, addressed to Poppy. Being stuck with a controlling husband but daring to dream of a better, happier life, she learnt the hard way the power of compromise and self-sacrifice. Guilt-ridden by her actions, but stronger than before, she vows to make amends and never give up hope.Jane Corry, author of I Looked Away, Blood Sisters and My Husband's Wife, is back with a compelling domestic thriller. I made a mistake is a family drama, laced with murder, suspense and regrets. The what ifs that are haunting the two women, the opportunities -or rather lack of- during different eras, and the realization how quickly life can change make for a thought provoking read. The different narratives and timelines effortlessly intertwine, giving us a better insight into each character; their views on motherhood, marriage and love in general reveal the deeper layers of the story. I found myself completely engaged and captivated by these women’s perspective on life. It is a must-read for anyone looking for an emotional and gripping thriller.

Brilliant book
Another masterpiece from the author of My Husband's Wife and The Dead Ex. Corry had me hooked from the prologue and it was incredibly hard to put this down, it is a highly addictive read. We follow the life of Poppy who bumps into an old flame at a works Christmas party. Poppy is instantly transported back to all the good times they shared together which stirs up old feelings. She initially forgets the hurt and pain he caused her when he left her for another woman but that's not all she forgets... Matthew is a dangerous man and it doesn't take Poppy long to realise she's made a huge mistake letting him back into her life. Lots of twists and turns throughout and even though I predicted part of the ending, which then dragged on a little bit, Corry still caught me off guard in the final chapter. Out of five ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Fantastic story telling
This book is a great read and kept me totally absorbed. The story is told in alternating chapters from the point of view of Poppy and her mother in law Betty. Both characters are deeper than they first appear, and I especially enjoyed reading about Betty's earlier life. The book starts with a death and then goes back to Poppy bumping into her first boyfriend, Matthew a few months before. Poppy is married with two teenage daughters, Betty is widowed and lives with them. The story unfolds really well, with lots of layers, and the author keeps you guessing about what has really happened. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it.
