You don't need to blow on them hard to for a loud whistle. I forgot this and blew on it hard, my ears were sore for a few hours.Got these to help prevent my cats from getting into a tussle (new cat). Technically they work, but they're too loud for humans much less an animal and I'm reluctant to use them as a result.

Purchased these whistles for my volleyball team. The girls liked having their own color and whistle. Plastic, but efficient.
