The fume extractor feels sturdy and well-constructed, and the activated carbon filter seems to remove contaminants from solder fumes without issue. After only a few uses I can see residue build up on the surface of the filter, so everything seems to be performing its job well. I found the working distance from the soldering iron is around 20cm or so, but the best results were achieved within 10-15cm. Much further than that and the extraction is reduced to a point where I would no longer consider it sufficient for the task.Replacing the filters is simple as they are retained by four small metal lips and can be easily removed when needed. The unit comes with a spare filter, and generic replacements can be readily purchased online, although they are generally a little larger than the ones used by this extractor (130mm² vs 120mm²). Trimming them down to the correct size with regular scissors is fine.The colour of the unit is orange (I measured it as #E68E18 with a colour sensor), rather than the yellow presented in the product images. Not a tremendous issue as it doesn’t alter the functionality of the extractor, but those who specifically wanted a yellow finish could be disappointed.One overriding concern for me was that the unit arrived with a Schuko plug moulded onto the power lead, along with a multi-plug type to UK Type G adapter that was non-compliant with BS 1363 as required by UK law. The supplied adapter was electrically unsafe and should never be employed with UK plug sockets. Issues include a half-insulated earth pin and exposed live, neutral and earth contacts with no shutters for protection.Given the target market for this extractor, one would assume that most people purchasing this product are competent enough to rewire the plug themselves, but it really shouldn’t be necessary as all new products sold within the UK are required to come wired with a Type G plug or compliant adapter that fully encloses the Schuko plug as standard. A disappointing & dangerous problem on an otherwise fantastic product.

Works well and does the job. The filter isnt hepa, it is just the carbon foam so this will not remove particulates only the noxious vapours that are crucial to remove for your respiratory health. So on that careful basis happy to recommend. Andrew
