Question 2

Does it stain dogs fur??

Accepted Answer

Hi there, This model is Anodized Black Stainless Steel. Anodizing metal is not an applied product, rather is is a electro-chemical process that alters the metal. So, it black "appearance" does not wear off.

About fur discoloration. There are several ways fur will discolor:

1) New metal products should be washed before use to remove a finishing product from the metal. Just like washing new clothes prior to wearing to remove the factory treatments to the fabric, wash metal dog tack prior to use.

2) Some dogs have a sensitivity to metal products. The symptoms can show as fur discoloration and/or scratching. This is similar to people who are sensitive to various metals used in jewelry.

3) Sometimes dogs have a PH in their system that will react to metals, and the skin and fur will discolor. They may or may not be uncomfortable, but the fur will be unsightly.

4) A very common cause of fur discoloration is dirt. Collars have lots of nooks and crannies, as we say, and all those little places accumulate dirt, skin flakes, dander, oil, sweat, etc. So, keep collars clean. Wash regularly. This will prevent most problems. Good collar hygiene goes a long way.

Of course, on dark fur, discoloration is not noticeable, though if a dog is constantly scratching at the neck area, pay attention to the cause.
