"Sacred Spirits", A Stirring Synthesis of Cultures
"Sacred Spirits", IMHO, is one if the most successful blends of Native American Chants and Dance songs with "contemporary" musical instruments I have had the pleasure to personally experience. It touches the heart and soul in a very deeply primal and yet etheric way. This is not the usual haphazardly produced and repetitive Native Flute and/or drums music that all begins to sound the same real quick. It far surpasses anything else I've heard in the Native American genre. There is thoughtfulness here, and craftmanship and a sense of great care taken, both in the chants and prayers and in how the music underscores and enhances the words. The strings are hauntingly beautiful, especially the cello, and blend astonishingly well with and enhance both the traditional drumming and the voices. The arrangement of each track is superb. I have given this title as a gift to many people, all of whom have been struck by the impact it leaves on mind and body. This is a disc to spin over and over. The music truly has a sacred feeling about it, and it has a healing and soothing quality as well. It is grounding and uplifting at the same time. Your spirit will soar with these songs.

An antidote to the vacuity of modern American culture!
Marginalized by the predominently white culture into which it was introduced, this CD of authentic Native American chants nevertheless remains a remarkable musical document! American racism notwithstanding, the musical accomplishment found in 'Sacred Spirit' is probably one of the very reasons for its 'hiddenness!' Incorporating a modern aesthetic, but remaining clear about its roots, it is more than an historical odyssey; a journey through its eleven tracks takes up a spiritual path, delineating a whole culture effortlessly, displaying passages of tremendous beauty. Thankfully, this is no white man's look at Indian culture! The Pawnee soul-cry "Our hearts are set in the heavens/It is there our hearts are set - in the heavens!" pervades the noble aesthetic of the whole disc. The lullaby (Dawa -Cradlesong) so often mentioned is but one of eleven superbly realised pieces, the disc is easily and most profitably absorbed 'of a piece', the end of the disc comes much too soon; and marginalized though it may be by the overlords of pop culture, one takes a certain comfort in knowing that a portion of the proceeds of each CD sold goes to the Native American Rights Fund. This disc embodies a timeless witness of an authentic American music, not to mention an historical ethos of rich and compelling beauty! Get it!

It is a beautiful blend of indian music and nature sounds
This album conjured images of the native American people living life as they believed for thousands of years before the white man came. The chants are sung in some indian language while I listened to this album. It is a beautiful blend of indian music and nature sounds. This album also can be used in an indoor magickal temple setting while using artificial taper candles to create a spiritual setting and atmosphere.Instead of seeing colors in my mind while listening to the album.I see images of Indians walking through the forests, hunting, training for defense, falling in love, living spiritual lives both young and old.Indian children playing near the indian villiage.Lastly seeing images of the Indians meeting on nights of the full moon dancing, singing, druming and doing great magick worship of the GREAT WHITE SPIRIT.This album is a great listening experience.

Not pure traditional Native American but good for what it is
I expected a bit more traditional Native American like I hear at the Pow Wows I go to each year up state New York. It is pleasant and a good variety. Prices varied from very high to very low.

Love it!
Very moving. To me the music is a perfect combination of Native American chants and classical music/new age. I know it sounds like a strange combination, but the way it is mixed...just wow! I would not recommend it for those that are looking for a more traditional "Pow-Wow" music...you will not be happy with this. However if you are looking for something different that sounds amazing and you can lie back, close your eyes and just relax to and let go and feel the music...then this is the CD for you. This CD is my Zen or my "happy place" music. I highly recommend it for that reason. Track #7 is my favorite. Check it out. :)
