RENOVA MEDICAL WEAR Mastectomy Recovery Shirt with Drain Pockets

I initially purchased this top in a black size XL and later ordered a second in blue size L. The shirt is true to size. You may want to consider ordering a size up if you will have four drains just so you'll have extra room. The drain pockets are a MUST! After a mastectomy, you will not feel like pinning your drains to the inside of your shirt. I don't think I would have had the strength to manipulate a safety pin for a couple days after my surgery.In comparing it to a size L, 100% cotton, button-up top of another brand, this is what I found:The fabric is light and breathable. It didn't fade and didn't seem to draw up after being machine washed & dried. It has kept its shape and the fabric is not showing signs of wear after being washed every 2-3 days for two weeks.I found that the drain and tube material move across this fabric with much less resistance than with 100% cotton fabric. That's huge when you have limited range of motion and limited movement & strength in your arms & hands. It also enables the drains to come out the pockets more easily.The depth of the pockets was perfect - not too shallow that you worry your drains will come out but not so deep that your drains tip over or are too far inside to easily access.The tab that holds the drain tubes was an unexpected plus! It keeps movement of your drain tubes to a minimum, which helps keep you comfortable, but doesn't restrict them so much that they can't move when they should. If your tubes stretch from being stripped, it keeps them up under your shirt instead of hanging below the hem line where they might possibly be sat on or caught on something else due to being exposed. It also eliminates the need to pin your tubes to your shirt. ***Note - the picture of the product shows two drain tube holder tabs above the pocket. The shirts I received had only one above the pocket, but it easily held both tubes.Even if you only have two drains, having a shirt with four pockets is great! Once two of my drains were removed, I was able to choose whether having the drains in front or to the sides worked better for the position I was in.The plastic snaps were much easier to use than buttons. They are low profile, large enough to handle easily and snapped with minimal effort but stayed snapped securely. The tube tab also secures with a snap on one end of the tab. If you are considering another brand of shirt with tabs, make sure the tab opens at one end. Some other brands have tabs that are sewn down on both ends. Basically, they are useless unless you want to hang the tubes from them with a safety pin.I honestly can't think of any negatives to this shirt. An outer pocket might have been an added bonus but definitely not a necessity. The price point is a little higher than I would have expected, but was close to what the others ran.Bottom line is that for cost, quality, functionality, durability and ease of use, this shirt is the best choice!!

I purchased this shirt to come home in after my surgery, the fabric is soft and comfy, the shirt has inside pockets to secure your drain tube and it ease put on with front open snaps. The quality and value is worth the money. The fit was true to size, I purchased a large.

I’ve been wearing this shirt since my surgery. It’s soft. The button snaps are easy to open, the inside pockets hold the drains well and you can’t tell I have drains. I sized up to a large because I didn’t want it to be tight. I usually wear a size small. Very stretchy which helps me out this shirt on myself since my range of motion is very limited.

Update: I returned the original XL purchase and got an XXL to try. This one fits about the way I expected the XL to fit. This one will work for me.A couple of caveats, though. IMHO, there is nothing unisex about the sizing, nor the cut, of these. I'm a small guy. So I can get by with this. But this will not work for you if you are on the more "average" or larger guy size. Even at the XXL size, the sleeves on this are tight. As in "show off my arm muscles" tight. There's no extra room there. So unless you have toothpick arms, like I do, this isn't going to work for you. In fact, I don't see how this would work for a larger woman, either.The rest of the XXL shirt is in line with a men's L - XL. Closer to what I would expect from a men's or unisex X, but perhaps still a little small. The cut is definitely WIDE. I am sure that some of this is to allow room for the drains and tubing, which is what one wants it for. However, it's clearly cut for wide hips. While that is not a show-stopper, it belies the fact that there is nothing unisex about this shirt. That is really what I am taking umbrance with. That is misleading. I don't care if the shirt is meant for women. But I would prefer not to be misled about that. It would have been easier to determine sizing and set expectations for fit accordingly.Overall, I really like the shirt. It's not like I am going out on the town in it, so I don't really care if the cut is odd for my body. It works. The fabric is really comfy, and it will prevent me from snagging a drain tube on a door knob, etc. It's easy to get on and off, which will be essential while I have T-Rex arms post-surgery.So, despite the sizing oddities, I like it.---------I am a guy having chest reconstruction surgery. I bought these because they looked great for easy on-and-off and wrangling drain bulbs, etc. I wear a men's large shirt. I bought two of these in an XL because, based on comments, it looked like they might run a little on the small size.Well, they definitely do. An XL might be a women's XL, but it definitely is not a unisex/men's size XL. It's even a touch on the small size as a men's large.I do like the shirt, and I am going to return these two and go with an XXL. The neco on these is quite large, so I think that will make the neck HUGE on an XXL, but that's not a major concern. I need it to go around my chest and stomach with some room to spare for drains, etc. To be clear, I am not a big guy. So these are truly on the small side.Order ahead of time so you have time to adjust accordingly, and I would advise to order up two sizes if you are guy, One size up might be enough for a woman or someone very slight build.

Love this shirt, definitely recommend for easy on and off. The loose feel is good for chest surgery and the stiffness of movement that comes after. Has two pockets with room to easily hold items.

Bought this for my double mastectomy. Material is very soft and comfortable. I wore it to bed every night as a pyjama shirt. During the day I had a belt with little pockets for the drainage bulbs that I could wear under any shirt. Laundry was not happening, and being able to change into a clean shirt was heavenly. But the belt would have been uncomfortable to sleep in, and this was perfect.As for sizing..... I think I went up a size from my usual, thinking I definitely didn't want it to be tight. I was going to be smaller in the chest, but wider around the hip where the pockets for the bulbs would be. But it was very loose and roomy. So you could probably just order your usual size. The material is very soft and stretchy.

Bought this shirt for breast reduction surgery and paired with a comfortable post surgery bra this is the second most important item for a comfortable recovery. The front closure is a must have. It has inside pocket and clips for drains. Soft material. Easy to get on right after surgery. You can sleep in it the first few days. Wash it, repeat.

This top was my most valuable purchase before my mastectomy. The inside pockets for drains, the snap closure front and comfortable fit made it ideal. The material is soft and roomy. I bought an XL which is my usual size and it was perfect. I took the shirt with me to the hospital to wear when discharged and the nurses were really impressed. My home visiting nurses think it’s great as well. They’ve never seen a shirt like this. I highly recommend it to anyone going in for breast surgery.

So I am a transgender man that has ordered this for an upcoming double mastectomy. I will say that on my body this shirt is a bit tighter in the arms than I expected but the fit everywhere else is perfect. I am usually a large but ordered the XL to make sure there was room for drains and padding. I also prefer baggy fit for recovery. There is clips on the inside loops for drains tubes. Buttons snap perfect and material is super soft.

Very soft material. Ordered 1 size bigger, very comfortable after mastectomy. Wash very well, didn't shrink.
