Tobin Santa Sleigh Counted Cross Stitch Stocking Kit

There is a lot of shading this pattern which translates to a lot of color changes, but with the back stitch makes the pattern pop. The gold metallic thread is somewhat hard to use because it tends to slip. The pattern is small but I put it on a printer and enlarged copied so I could mark thru the stitches I had taken. I do not like the backing for the stocking included but will just purchase another piece of material. I think I will also put some kind of interface or backing to cover the stitches taken when finishing the stocking. I have been working on it for six weeks and am about half done. It is going to be a very nice stocking when completed.

The colors included arent' quite as vibrant as the picture appears. The pattern sheet is clear for the most part, but there are a few symbols that are a little harder to read. The gold metallic thread is a nightmare to work. I had several stitches pop as I was working, so I ended up tearing out all the stitches with that thread and finding different colors to use in its place depending on where the stitches were. Overall, a cute kit, very easy. There's only one or 2 quarter stitches, no half stitches that I recall. If I were to remake this pattern I would use half stitching along some of the rounded bits, (like on the reindeer etc). I think this would be perfect for a beginner or less experienced stitcher.

I have started stitching and was impressed that this kit came with the colors presorted and numbered unlike most kits I’ve had in the past. However, I’ve come across a few flosses so far that only have five instead of the typical 6 strands. Fortunately, there was still enough to finish the color’s stitching. While it comes with a backing fabric to make the stocking, I plan on getting some different fabric to finish the stocking. I will use the provided random patterned backing behind all the stitching so items don’t snag on anything later when stuffing the stocking, and getting a solid red or green for the actual back of the stocking.

Only issue I found was with the poor quality thread, which kept breaking. The pattern and materials were fine but I did buy extra lining material to give a better finish. Would look for a cheaper option of just a pattern next time and buy quality thread locally instead.
