Ranks in my TopTen Sewing Books in my Library
I am a seamstress now for over 45 years and I have been told by so many that I am extremely talented. Well not to be modest but I love what I do and I do it very, very well. I have an extensive Sewing Library of Books that I have purchased over the years which have also helped me out in my work. It is great to see and read about others work and I am always open to learning about how to make alterations differently or more easily than I was taught. I just received my new order of (3) Sewing and Tailoring Books I have purchased here on Amazon after reading extensive reviews on these (3) books and I am happy to say that all (3) of these books are "FABULOUS" and Rank in My Top Ten Sewing Books in my extensive Library. If you are a Beginner, take it slowly, but I would say you really should invest in these books and you will be impressed at how well written and the knowledge you will gain from them. I could go on and on about these 3 books but do yourself a favor and invest in them for yourself or your students.

Excellent resource!
This book is an excellent resource book in alterations for sewists with some experience in making clothes. I find the book to be beautifully published, with a very clear and readable font and ink. The illustrations are drawn so you can actually see step by step what the process is for a particular technique. If you are at the sewing machine with this book by your side, you can turn and glance at the book and see from a distance the words and the illustrations. The pages are of a heavy weight paper so when you open this hardcover book the pages lay flat. The author uses clear and concise language, so easy to understand. I really appreciate the knowledge the author shared with us and learned many professional techniques to improve my alterations to avoid the “homemade” look.

Clear instructions with supporting diagrams
Just what I was looking for how to do clothing alterations! The book is very comprehensive and organized. It has very clear step-by-step instructions with supporting diagrams. Highly recommend if you have more than a few things to alter or just want to advance your skills.

Seems thorough
Read through it but haven't tried any alterations yet. Seems to be understandable enough to put into practice & be able to work through each of the different alterations described. Pants & jeans r a huge part of the book & explained in every possible detail. I'm a self taught sewer. Alterations have been a mystery to me. I want to be able to alter all my own clothes whenever needed; & make my own jeans using an old worn out, but perfectly fitting pair as my pattern. Then adjust as needed for style or fit changes. I can see how getting some cheap unwanted clothes from the salvage shops/garage sales just to cut up & practice each of these alterations on til I've mastered the concepts & procedures following the instructions in this book would be an invaluable & enjoyable way of learning. When I feel proficient in replicating what's described in the book, I'll be able to tackle all my own clothes w/o ruining them. Great book to have! Wish I'd bought it when Genie Centre was still running & selling it for only $75. A book that tells how to do all the alterations needed on actual clothes (not pattern altering) is impossible to find. This one doesn't go into EVERYTHING out there (altering wedding dresses & extreme things), but it definitely hits all the normal everyday common wardrobe needs of most people: slacks, shirts/blouses, jackets, skirts, & basic stuff. Goes into detail to make jean seams & overstitching still look factory sewn. Explains how to do thick tough seams using only a home machine & no need for any kind of industrial machine. I've known about this book & wanted it for 15 yrs. Wish I hadn't waited so long (I thought the price was too steep & that was my big hesitation). Very glad to finally have it! I think it'll pay for itself over the yrs.

Thorough and specific
Very detailed, thorough steps and diagrams. I have attached pictures to give you an idea of what specific alterations are included. Furthermore, some chapters, such as for letting out or taking in go even more in depth to specific situations of taking in or letting out (pictures attached for that as well). The book even gives a short explanation of how each type of clothing you wear should fit you, such as the ideal length of a jacket (proportionately to your body). This is covered for all types of clothing.I hope the pictures I've attached help you understand what's covered in this book, and therefore whether you want to get it.

Exactly what the title promised
This is a very comprehensive guide on making alterations. Many helpful pointers and techniques that will make the job easier and eliminate a chance for a possible mistake. The book is well illustrated to shows exactly how to perform step by step operations. The author does not try to cover all possible topics in basic sewing, as it is not the goal on this book, and concentrated on the subject of alterations from openning seams to completing the project. I love this book
