CAMELLIAS Red Kidney Beans, 16 OZ

I got a recipe for authentic red beans and rice from a TV cooking show. The chef recommended Camellia brand beans, but said that they may be hard to find. Sure enough, I found them on Amazon! They are known for having a more tender skin, so they are desirable for this recipe. The finished product had creamy beans which held up well during the long cooking time. I would definitely purchase these again!

A friend visited New Orleans a brought me a package as a gift. I cooked them using the recipe on the package with smoked turkey tails. Best red beans I ever had. Immediately placed an order with Amazon. I also ordered Lady Cream Peas. OMG, So good.Came back to say I was dissatisfied with these red beans as they have a tough skin that cannot be chewed. They were not like the ones my friend brought back from New Orleans. Sad part is that I have have two more bags on the shelf.

My first taste of real Louisiana red beans and rice was in Colorado of all places. I haven't stopped thinking about this dish since and wanted to make it at home. Did my research. Camellia beans, tasso, smoked sausage and pickled pork are the secret. These beans make the dish tasty and creamy. Just made my second batch yesterday. Even my 8 year old daughter loves it!!

I cook these after a long soak. I cook them in a pressure cooker. They are perfect.JimUpdate June 27 2016I added a picture of the cooked beans. It is easy to understand why Camellia Red Beans are recommended in many of my favorite Red Beans and Rice recipes call for this brand. They fon’ Need to be soaked overnight and taste very fresh. When I originally ordered them, I selected 2 Day Shipping but was told the order would arrive a week later! I complained and asked to cancel my order if it was going to take that long. They asked for my order #. The beans were shipped before I could send them my order #! I am glad that they were shipped so quickly. I love the product.

I bought this particular kidney bean in order to make authentic New Orleans Red Beans & Rice for Mardi Gras. I have to say that these were, by FAR, the best tasting beans I have EVER had. The pot of beans was simply delicious; I ate themuntil my husband pointed out that I was also turning red like the beans. You won't be disappointed! I will definitely be ordering many bags in the future.

My sister introduced this too me. I love red beans and rice. I just like it simple and the recipe on the back of these beans are perfect. It's great to make these on a cold evening. Great comfort food!!!
