What’s not been said
Lots of other reviews so a couple of thoughts on the less obvious...If you’re trying to decide between the air 4 and a 2020 iPad Pro all I can offer is my choice was based on my original Pro 9.7” - its still flying through iOS 14 with no signs of sluggishness. On this basis I think the Pro chipset will have more longevity and is probably the best choice for me doing video & photo editing.Physically the size hits a real sweat spot and I’d expect the Air 4 to feel as well balanced and natural in the hand. The square edged design feels much better to me than the tapered models.Battery life is genuine and I don’t need to get nervous if I see 25% showing, I can be sure there’s still a good couple of hours + use left. Likewise I don’t see any inconsistency depending on the apps I use.The move to USB-C is welcome and this opens up a range of accessories that have real world use. Running a second - larger - display (though some apps give better support to this than others), Ethernet - for when WiFi is too ropey, and external storage - again within app limitations to name 3. The move to MagSafe on the iPhone 12 might see this great feature short lived. The camera - not quite as powerful as the iPhone version apparently but absolutely stunning nonetheless. The ultra wide lens really makes a difference here.Like the Air 4 you can transform the Pro with the Magic keyboard - at a price - and the pencil 2 is a step up from the original in both form and function. Marry these two to the iPad Pro and the experience is amazing, though the bill is eye watering.Worth it? Yes, if you play the long game and keep your tech for more than 18 months.

Good little gadget
I was in doubt whether I really needed an iPad in my life and now, after 3 months of use, I have to say I could not live without this gadget. The device is super fast and reliable. I have even managed to do some work with it and now that they have the Files app you can actually also update your Google Drive files on the go which is very handy and a welcomed new feature! It cannot replace a laptop (fully) but it gets quite close to it! Highly recommended for people who want to use it to watch youtube, do some gaming and even do light work with it (email, file sharing). The screen is super crisp and the audio is very clear.

Excellent, despite a couple of minor lay irritating changes
Okay I have only had this new iPad since yesterday so issues like ongoing battery life are impossible to judge, however, it is still at 62% from its initial charge and I have been using it a lot, to set up and transfer apps and data, and to get used to the variations from how my previous iPad Air worked. The list of minor irritants is fairly short. The significant one is the apparently arbitrary change from the previous Apple charging plug to USB C. This is slightly annoying, however, it is not the case that “nobody has” them as claimed elsewhere. I ordered some USB to USB C cables that will work with my existing charging plugs. The disconcerting change that I had to look up online to find the answer for was what has replaced the secondary function on the now absent thumbprint scanning button. I got the line at the foot of the page, swipe up thing fairly easily but how to shut down require the original button, plus a volume button, held down, the same action but a short press and release does screenshots.Once you have negotiated these changes it’s a piece of cake. I was worried that it was going to take me ages to reset up all the previous app function, addresses etc, from my old iPad, but it was very quick. There was a few re-log ins with my Apple ID that were slightly annoying and I didn’t understand why I needed to do this about four or five times but, other than that, once it had my ID I just needed the old iPad close to the new one a couple of scans of a QR type code and it pretty much did all the rest bar a couple of log in prompts. It was all done, more or less in about 30/40 minutes, including a software update download and install. I am 62 living with a number of stresses (no, not Covid related, but that too) and I managed fine. The other “negative” comment I read was that you can’t set up without an ID, well it is easy enough to set that up, you are not committing yourself to anything more than you have to do to use any service you would be getting an iPad for anyway, I don’t see that as a significant problem.

My first venture into the world of Apple...
... and I don't regret it!I have used Windows as my computer OS for as long as I have used PCs and would never even consider purchasing a MAC laptop or desktop because of the price of the hardware! I use my PC for quite serious audio, video, image and text projects and have never found it necessary to even contemplate moving to a MAC!However, for two quite specific reasons I decided to invest in this iPad Pro:1. I am a keyboard player and the opportunity to have pdf copies of my music available "on-screen", with page turns via finger-sweep and "order of programme" in setlists is invaluable2. I am a church sound engineer, running a Behringer X32 mixing desk and the option to have all its controls remotely accessible via an iPad app is invaluable.(Just as an aside: I could find no software which runs on Windows or Android that offers the facility outlined in 1 above and, although there is X32 control software that runs on Windows and/or Android, because of the lack of that facility to have music scores, complete with user-controlled page turns, accessible only an iPad seemed to meet my requirements.)I also bought a quite heavy-duty case - which has considerably increased the item's weight - but also given me the confidence that I am not likely to be able to easily "break" the iPad.The FaceID login works very well, the iPad is very responsive and I am very pleased with my purchase. I have not added many Apps to the core installation, partly because I have the "smallest" capacity model, 128 GB, and have no wish to find myself quickly running out of storage space! It is still very early days - I've had the item about three weeks - but, so far, have nothing but praise for it, other than the price!!
