I would recomend a Mora knife for that , those are the best, swedish knife brand, the timber rattler is more a knife to scare people if they come to attack you or break in to your home or something )

Will the handle break if hammered into a log for tinder?

It's not the best handle I've ever seen. but I don't think it would brake that easy.. maybe if it was done over and over. Hope this helps
