Jim Marshall - The Father of Loud: The Story of the Man Behind the World's Most Famous Guitar Amplifiers

It goes to 11.
As a rock music enthusiast I'd taken for granted that most of the big talent used Marshall tube amps. But why, and why not some other manufacturer (like Vox)? The author answers that question with the history of the inventor and the evolution of a peculiar amplified sound that Clapton, Townshend, Jeff Beck, Hendrix and all the musicians of the period could hear in their heads but not find in an amp. Includes a section of the various amp offerings, tube types, quality of sound, heads and cabinets, stacks and toys.

Great Read
Great read. Had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Marshall back in 1987, such a kind man.

Great reference for equipment.
A fairly quick read. Half biographical and half product line history. I think the author could have delved more into the the man, Marshall himself. A few good stories about Marshall’s relationships with famous users are bound to be out there. Not nearly as entertaining as the book I read on Fender & Les Paul recently that was combined in the same book.

Over all very informative....good history of the man behind the making of the amplifier that would set the bar so high that amp manufacturers are still trying to capture the sound that made history.
