The Perfect Size
I’m feeling a little foolish right now. For the past decade I’ve been buying Tashan’s XXL books. I don’t have all of them, but I do have most of them. They are fantastic productions, and I’ll never regret having them. The one thing I haven’t liked about them though is the storage box they come in. It’s not a very attractive box, and if you put it in the garage there’s always the concern that it’s going to get thrown away or misappropriated by someone. And, then, the collector value of your XXL book just went down the toilet. I’ve always wished that Taschen would do a hard cover slip case, like Folio Editions. That would be the more elegant way to protectThen there’s the issue about storing the XXLs. They don’t sit upright on any of my shelves, they’re all stacked horizontally. So if you want to look at one, you have to do some weightlifting and remove the volumes on top first. It’s really becomes challenging finding a place to put these XXL behemoths as you keep buying them. So, Taschen has recently started doing a smaller edition of these books. True, there’s less shock value. These are more of the size of a traditional coffee table book. But they are also less than half the price, and you don’t have any of the aforementioned storage challenges of the XXLs.This title was one I wanted in XXL but just had not gotten around to buying yet. When I saw it in this more diminutive size, I thought I’d roll the dice and check it out. It’s also only about a third the price. No bookmark, but several fold-out pages. Paper quality and overally construction is superb as is always the case with Taschen.I just got this, and it’s great. Honestly, I think in the future I will start buying the new titles in this size. This is big enough for me, and it’s going to look great on my traditional bookshelf sitting upright where I can access it more easily.Congratulations to Taschen on yet another winner, I think Taschen is one of the most interesting companies in the world right now. They are really building beautiful books in a time where everybody else is trying to get us to read from electronic devices. I applaud them, and I think people for many decades, if not centuries, will also be appreciative.

Excellent in every way
This book is the fourth in the series of reproductions of photochromatic postcards. The first was Germany, then came France and Italy (where is England?). They are huge books both in numbers of pages (around 600) and in overall size, which enables due justice to be rendered to the photochromes. The initial volumes were relatively expensive, but a new printing of the German edition and the new American edition are much more affordable. I hope that similar printings are soon to come for France and Italy. All of the series are written in English, German, French, and Italian, with brief introductions and captions for the photochromes. One side benefit of a polyglot book such as this is that one can brush up on these other languages or, perhaps, even learn to read them. This book is an excellent window into life at the beginning of the twentieth century. It is much appreciated by myself and, hopefully, many others.

Fotocromie spettacolari

Toller Artikel, schnelle Lieferung jedoch schlecht verpackt.
Tolles Buch und sehr schnelle Lieferung kurz vor Weihnachten. Allerdings mangelhaft verpackt. Komplett ungeschützt in einem engen Karton was zu verstossenen Kanten unweigerlich führte.
