Disappointed
Because of the presentation, I was expecting a book full of French furniture and decorating ideas. This is geared for a newlywed, or a very young person starting out, and the information is universal, not just French. Also, I paid for a new book, but the one I received is used, as it has been opened, and shows a few signs of wear. I will keep the book and pass it on to my granddaughter, as returns are difficult for me, at this time.

Not as Chic as I'd Like
One might assume that the word "beautiful" on the cover means hanging an orange covered in cloves to control moths. I, however, did not.I had assumed a differnt direction for the book, perhaps celebrating the elan that the French are famous for. First of all, I am pretty certain that the orange and clove trick won't work any more than the lavender one does re pesky moths. If so, Orkin would be out of business!I was also a little taken back by the advice on wine stains--after cold water, if that doesn't work, use a stain remover. Golly, I never would have thought of that.Advice and grandmother's remedies do not make a book that will make your home "more beautiful." Maybe nicer--I'll grant that. I am even a bit skeptical that old fashioned "cures" might have adverse effects. I loved my grandmother, but a little of her advice has gone by the by now.Perhaps the French need to know that you must throw away bad food from your frig--but most Americans are up on this one.And so, I am not entirely pleased with this book...although I will forever be certain to keep bread on hand. Maybe there is a need for common sense is such an impressive publsihed form. However, my most serious objection it the book is presented as something else--ideas for a "stylish" home. There is everything here--including the kitchen sink.

Mostly housekeeping tips
The cover photo is deceptively charming and lovely but I'm afraid the contents are just good tips for housekeeping, not decorating, lifestyle, etc. Whatever floats your boat, it's your choice, now you know.

Inspirador!
Ediçao muito bonita, ensinamentos úteis e/ou curiosos de como se preservava os alimentos antigamente e que são uteis até hoje. O livro é inspirador para quem gosta do estilo francês de viver (como eu). Adotei varios aprendizados. Recomendo!

Too much writing
We wantes a coffe table book: with plenty of pictures and a few guides for french decoration. Instead of this we got a treaty with tiny photos and more writing that a James Joyce novel.
