Baby Boomer Foodie Loves This Series
The hardback books are written by various authors each familiar with the specific book's culinary topic in quite an enjoyable manner, walking the reader through a visit to the country addressed as if on vacation. Quite an interesting read, combining a bit of armchair travel with charming photos and a sampling of recipes as well as historical information about each culture's foods. Baby boomers in particular will enjoy and reminisce over the 1970s wardrobes worn by photographed travelers. This is a great resource for foodies who enjoy a touch of history and are not necessarily looking for volumes and volumes of recipes.

Fabulous resource for Foodies
Fabulous resource for any Foodie. Each book covers a cooking region or country with interesting history, colorful pictures and recipes. Fascinating reading even if you don't cook.

hardcover books = history & spiral-bound = the recipes
This Time Life series consists of 27 topics (countries / regional cooking style) and each topic consists of 2 books - a hard cover book and a companion spiral bound recipe booklet. There are some recipes in the hard cover books, but the spiral-bound companion recipe booklet is just 100% recipes. My point is that if you are recipe hungry like me, then seek out the spiral-bound books of this series. This is a wonderful series, informative with many photographs but the hard cover books are scant on recipes. These hardcover books do have a target audience, like food historians, etc. But just not bursting at the seams with recipes. The companion recipe booklets will have the recipes for the foods / dishes shown in the hardcover books.I prefer the recipe booklet, but would buy the volume set (2 books).I really want to be fair and prefer not to give a rating because these are excellent books - it's just the topics (volumes) are really a set of two books (hardcover + separate recipe booklet).
