Great product
Very high end plate. I've been using mine for months and it's not shown much wear. They're super flat, they cut fast and these have replaceable faces which is a plus. You can buy a 140 grit plate, and a 400 grit replacement face and stick it on the other side and you have a dual side diamond plate for half the price of most other diamond plates. They're great for reprofiling, edge repair, or flattening whetstones.

Top-tier Japanese diamond sharpening stone.
Japanese diamond stone 8" long (the Japanese make the best hand-forged kitchen knives (very expensive for a genuine one) and both diamond & ceramic "splash-and-go stones. 600 grit is medium fine. You should get stones from 140 course grit through 1000 or 1200 very fine. You can hone & polish with Shapton ceramic splash-and-go stones from 1000 to 8000 grit for true hand-forged mirror edges (not necessary with western knives. Finish sharpening with a leather stropping board to remove last remnants of the burr. Excellent quality, very long lasting & easy to use with good feedback to the knife hand-sharpener. Each Atoma stone is one-sided, so you can save money by buying a single-side stone like this 600 grit & buying a replacement diamond layer, say a 1200 grit (much cheaper), which is just the diamond sheet without the stone. Pull off the backing & attach to back of stone. Now you have a 2-sided stone for less than the price of 2 single-sided stones. Most people sharpen dry or with a little water mixed with dish soap. Best, though, is putting on 2 or 3 drops of Trent Lapping Fluid (avaliable from Amazon) & rubbing to cover surface of the diamond plate lightly with a Microfiber or other clean cloth. Best to sharpen to the blade's edge, not away.

Works fantastic for flattening water stones and bevel establishment
The best part is that as far as I can tell, the surface is extremely flat which was very important to me. This makes very quick work of flattening water stones. It's a little slower than I expected for flattening the backs of chisels, but I also haven't found anything faster, so maybe it's as good as one can realistically hope for?I also really appreciate the size of it. I have some smaller DMT plates, and while excellent, they were much harder to use for most tasks due to the smaller size.I have a number of water, oil and diamond stones and this has become one of the most important ones in my collection.Update:So I've had this plate for quite a while and it's still working well, if slower than expected. I still like it a lot and still think it's probably the best value in its class, but I'm surprised at how slowly it cuts. I'm really on the edge as to whether I think it should be 4 or 5 stars because of that. Everything else about it is excellent, but when you're buying a 140 grit stone you expect it to hog off material like crazy. I guess I would call it 4.5 stars if I could. Buy it, but if you're planning on flattening chisel or plane iron backs with it don't expect miracles; it's still going to be a workout. The main reason I edited this review at all was to add a picture I just took with a cheap usb microscope. Keep in mind this is after a year or so of use. More interesting than anything else.

Solid product
I use this to flatten my stones. Does a good job, especially for the price. We will see how long it lasts but when it does stop working, I’ll probably buy this same one again!

Perfect for establishing a new angle
I have several diamond stones and water stones. This Atoma # 140 stone, reprofiles planes blades and chisels, like it's on steroids. It flattens the backs of those same tools effortlessly. I then move on to my higher grit diamond or water stones until complete. This is a time saver and it's dead nuts flat. I haven't used it to flatten my water stones yet, but after sharpening 3 plane blades this evening, I'm sure it's going to be great.

A better flattening stone than an actual flattening stone
Bought this as a truing stone for my actual whetstone. Does a great job flattening and rounding off the edges and is easy to rinse off when you're done. I haven't tried actually sharpening anything with this yet, so I can't speak to it's capability there

Extremely coarse
This thing cuts quick. Ridiculously quick. If you need something to flatten your whetstones, it’ll do that extremely quickly too. Maybe not for beginners, but definitely worth picking up at some point.
