From Booklist Ladybugs parade and perform, aiming to “do the most amazing tricks” and “astonish everyone” in the latest from award-winning Dutch author van Genechten (Big and Small, 2013; In, Out and All Around, 2013). Cyclists, tightrope walkers, strongmen, jugglers, and acrobats are among the groups of adorable beetles that flaunt their stuff and help young readers count from 1 to 10. The various tricks will be familiar to little circus-goers, and the four-legged, big-eyed creatures are easy to warm right up to. Though the one-sentence descriptions of each trick are occasionally accompanied by a confusing aside—“Number 10 leaps into the middle (playing a tune by a famous French wind artist)”—the straightforward action and pace give the counting some momentum. Clever illustrations, featuring solid, chunky ladybugs amid delicate sketches of circus apparatuses, such as bicycles and a trapeze, create a visual counterpoint that will keep young eyes interested, as do the red and black hues that dominate the thick, sturdy pages. Simple and Adorable Counting Book
Guido van Genechten has done it again. Circus 123 is another wonderful book by this talented author and illustrator. Teaching your children to count should always be this much fun. Playful ladybugs perform in the circus: cycling, walking the tightrope, performing stunts, and lifting weights. All leads up to a grand finale with all the performers taking a bow. The black and red bugs stand out against the cream-colored pages.I received a copy of this book from the author. This review contains my honest opinion, which I have not been compensated for in any way.
