My Pal Snuffy!
I noticed these are some fairly recent comics as there were mentions of Homeland Security and such, but that didn't take away from my enjoyment. It's basically the same Snuffy, Loweezy, Jughaid & Tater from the late '60's & '70's that I remember but with updated adventures. I'll have to try to locate some from the '50's and the '60's. Shipping was quick and the book was secure in its holder.

Snuffy Smith Book, Wonderful!!!
This book from the "funny papers" is an excellent compilation from the series. For anyone who remembers this comic, relive the wonderful memories from the newspapers.

Complete Ripoff
I was utterly shocked when I saw this tiny paperback that I paid $17 for (marked down from $20). Every other $20 paperback compendium of comic strips includes hundreds. It's worth maybe $5.00!John Rose should be ashamed of himself for this rip-off.

Great, clean laughs!
I was lucky enough to get an autographed copy of this book, and it quickly became one of the favorites in my vast collection of comic strip books. John Rose has done an excellent job with Snuffy Smith, keeping true to his roots while remaining very relevant for today's readers. Snuffy has reformed a lot over the years, remaining faithful to his loving wife Loweezy and laying off the corn-squeezin's, but he's still a chicken-stealin', checker-cheatin', lazy-but-lovable varmint. This book is chocked full of the artist's own favorites, and makes a great showcase for his comics. There's visits from other characters (including Barney Google!), run-ins with Sheriff Tait, appearances from Parson Tuttle, and many, many more. I don't want to give away too many surprises, but this book is WELL worth the read. I hope we can look forward to many, many more!

John Rose uts the "hoot" in "Hootin' Holler!
John Rose is only the third writer-cartoonist to produce "Barney Google and Snuffy Smith," and he (as did predecessor Fred Lasswell with creator Billy DeBeck), served as an assistant before taking over, allowing for a seamless transition. In this volume, the first featuring Mr. Rose's work, we are treated to the personal favorites of the cartoonist himself. These comics put the "hoot" in "Hootin' Holler" with their fun characters and funny gags! The book appeals to me as a lifelong fan of rural humor (radio, films, books, television, comics), but I feel thus humor is sorely needed in today's world. It's suitable for the entire family, and many of us have a "Snuffy" somewhere in the family tree! My only complaint is the fact that there is only one volume available! I hope to see more!
