Nice bookcase for home or office
Item arrived well-packaged and complete with decent instructions on assembly. The finish on this bookcase, especially on the top and sides, is very nice. Seems like a better grade of wood and composite was used than in most small furniture kits. When assembling I added clear all-purpose glue to all connection points and connecting hardware to give additional future resilience. When attaching the top to the rest of the shelf, flip the whole thing upside and have someone push from above so those cam-locks grab and hold correctly - be certain they do, otherwise the top is not fully connected. Again, carefully adding some glue between the top and sides helps hold everything more securely. Overall I am pleased with this product. Didn’t take a lot of effort to put together. Seems very solid. I really like the decorative crossbar. Be sure to follow the assembly instructions carefully and you will have a nice bookcase for your home or office.

Nice bookcase!
I needed a longer bookcase to accommodate a new, larger TV in my bedroom and this one ended up being just right! It’s very sturdy, roomy, the perfect height for TV-watching, and looks great! I gave it 5 stars for ease of assembly, but I must admit I didn’t install it. I’m the world’s most incompetent handy-person (my talents lie elsewhere), so I asked a friend to put it together for me. I watched — and he obviously had no problem following the simple sheet of instructions and assembled the bookcase quickly. The price was really good, especially for the quality of this attractive new piece of furniture in my bedroom.

Sunshine and a willing hubby
This nice bookcase arrived quickly and it smelled just as toxic as some reviews said, but I was willing to take a chance on having to return it, even though I have asthma and am very sensitive. I'm glad I did, but it took a while to eliminate the smell, several days in the hot Arizona sun, with my husband moving it around to get just the right amount of breeze and sun. Now it's sitting happily in the perfect narrow spot with no smell. It took him 45 minutes to put together. There were some flaws in the construction, scratches and dings on the wood, and I called Amazon about it and received 10% off which was nice. Black Sharpie helped eliminate a white ding. Close up in bright sun, it looks more scratched and some parts look more red than black, plus the center seam which looks like wood in the photo is actually a piece of metal. All this said, it is a lovely classically styled sturdy dark reddish black (more on the black side) bookcase and overall it looks great, with none of the flaws visible under normal scrutiny. I am very happy with it and the price was right.

Looks more purple than black in bright light and the smell is horrible.
I have had this unit since April 15th and I have not been able to keep it in the house because the varnish smell is still overpowering. It has lessened as the first 6 weeks, I couldn't even keep it in the garage. Now at least I can keep it in the garage. I put it in the house this week and had to take it back out because of the smell. The unit looks nice except for large stickers that can't easily be removed and some minor scratches and varnish that ran. From a few feet away, it looks good. The color is definitely a deep purple on the inside in any kind or bright light but in dimmer light the unit looks black. Everything would be acceptable except for the overpowering chemical smell which has made it unusable. Update: 18 months later and I am throwing it away because of the toxic smell. Nice unit but the toxic smell is not diminishing.

Nice Piece
I was a bit apprehensive in that a shelf broke off during assembly. I reluctantly put together the replacement. I was feeling during assembly, it felt weak. However, following the instructions and putting all the pieces in place as instructed, the item gained sturdiness. It’s the exact size I wanted, small but noticeable. I ordered just for placing pictures and a couple of cute miscellaneous pieces. It’s perfect! Also, this same exact piece is sold at middle scale retailers and considerably higher.

*Update* 3.5 stars - Packaging/item received late/damaged.
8/21/2020: I really anticipated this shelf and just received it. Feeling very salty at the moment, I'll try to break down everything as much as possible. Pros: The color of the item is really nice and just as I had hoped it would be. It appears to be true to size, when assembled. Cons : First, I received the package two days late. Second, the packaging was badly damaged and had two large holes on the underside of the box, one about 5"x6" and the other about 6.5"x7". The latter and larger hole was re-taped with clear tape so I assume it was done by the manufacturer, vendor or at the warehouse. The smaller hole was not taped over and I assume happened during shipping. Not a logistics expert, the packaging on the inside of the box I think would've been sufficient, but it wasn't which brings me to my next point. Third, the shelf was pretty damaged and isn't serviceable. Both side panels have holes in them that correlate with the damage on the box. The pieces on the side panels that hold up the center shelves were also broken off and unserviceable. The damage to the the shelve left several broken pieces throughout the box. The back panel has a large scratch while there's damage and bending that also correlates with the damage on the box and side panels. The box with all of the screws and stuff seemed fine, but I didn't bother checking if all the pieces were there given I can't assemble the shelf in the first place. Lastly, priced "ok" I guess, but should be cheaper given the quality of material used. Side and back panels are approximately 1/8" particle particle board and would explain why the holes through the box would easily extend through the damaged pieces. Like I said, I'm salty! I've generally had great luck when ordering anything from Amazon, and I never needed to return an item or complain. So, I'm trying to figure out this process and how to contact the vendor in order to receive a replacement. Returning the item would be a nuisance and a burden, and I hope that will not be the case. I do give it two stars based on the really nice color and ok price if the item were to be received fully intact and serviceable. More to follow once I figure out and complete the replacement process, and after dealing with Amazon/Vendor. 8/21/2020 Update: Unable to reach the vendor by the contact information provided on Amazon, and I was unable to locate another contact number directly from the vendor website. I filled out the vendor's online form and I am waiting to hear back from them... 9/2/2020 Update: Vendor reached out to me after several days and, after several back and forth emails with Jeff over the course of a week, he coordinated and sent me another complete shelf without difficulty. He was always professional so I have no complaints with how the vendor responded to my inquiry. Regarding the replacement shelf; this box was also received damaged, with a slit in and across the entire box, which I attribute to happening while en-route. However, there was no major damage to the item when it was unpacked other than minor scratches. It was also quite dusty and dirty with most pieces covered but easily wiped clean. It was quite easy to put together as it took less than thirty minutes to unpack, assemble and throw the box out. Product is decent. It definitely looks pretty nice minus the few scratches, but it does seem somewhat cheaply made. Even if the item came assembled, I don't think it's worth the price. I think $50-60 max would be appropriate. Overall, I'm happy with it and give it 3.5 stars.

Good Sturdy product ... Assembly is quick
I looked around to find something that would match my TV cabinet, and this was the closest I could find that was not absurdly expensive. It also got good reviews as well. Instructions: Like most manually assembled products, they are graphically based. They don't mention important factors. I will explain this shortly. Color: It is not as black as the picture looks. It is a very dark brown. Close enough for me, but if you are looking for a 100% match, you're going to have to go to a brick and mortar company. Assembly: I put together a TV stand/cabinet before assembling this. The stand took me 6-7 hours to do alone. One piece I put in backwards, and didn't realize it until it was too late. A lot of the assembly for the stand used dowels which needed to be glued. Once I realized that I put a piece in backwards, they almost certainly would have been stuck. So I really couldn't do much about it. On top of that, the glass door needed a drilled hole to fit. Thankfully, I was able to drill one myself, and aligned it enough to where it worked. Anyhow, assembling this did require 4 dowels. However, they did not need to be glued(at least no glue came with the product and was not mentioned in the instructions). This took me a little bit over an hour to put together. It would have been shorter, but I put the base shelf backwards, and didn't realize this until I was trying to put on the top. Fortunately, because no glue was used for the 4 dowels, disassembling it took only a few minutes to reverse it. The only part that was a pain, was the last step(putting on the top). Even after realizing my mistake, It took 5-10 minutes or so getting the back to setting into the ridge. Besides those two setbacks, it was simple. I have a lot of information books on it, and it still is very sturdy. It is well worth the price, and assembling yourself.

Just so so, wouldn't buy again.
Merely adequate. Arrived damaged, but I put that more on Fedex than I do the seller, I've never had anything delivered by Fedex that didn't somehow get ruined. Rather than bother with sending it back, I went ahead and put it together. You'll need about an hour if you use a manual Phillips' head screwdriver, half that if you use a drill, but by hand is really easy. Directions were clear up to the last part of putting on the top, it was backwards, but easy to figure out what to do. That being said: All hardware (and extras!) were included, boxed separately, and well-labeled. Actual metal screws to hold it together. It's a shame the "wood" itself is so cheap. The back is fancy cardboard, and this is where the damage was really visible, big dent punched into it. Books hide it, but if I was a stickler it would be unacceptable. The top corner where the box had been crushed was split, and for a minute I thought it wouldn't stay together, but then the way its assembled it manages to squeeze the cracked part together. Again, if I was very picky, it would be unacceptable. Various scuffs, scratches, and dings on the wood veneer, but again not anything that can't be remedied with some almond furniture polish. The color isn't really espresso so much as it is a very deep dark cherry. Kind of weird, actually. I had bought it to kind of match a bookcase I already have that is espresso. Big difference in color, but since they're not right next to each other it's fine. The poor coloring of the veneer is very visible in the bottom back corners, but books are in there so no one is going to notice. Very small, not what I pictured, but I just didn't project the dimensions into reality. It's not quite 5ft tall. You can get about 8-10 regular sized hardbacks onto the shelves. STRONG chemical odor. Normally things like this don't bother me, but it gave me a headache and I had to open windows to air out my apartment. GROSS. Still chemichally after a couple of days. This is about as bad as the damage, and the main reason I would not recommend anyone buy it. You can get something for about the same quality or better at Target or Cost Plus, so go that route. I couldn't really recommend it to anyone else.

I'm delighted with this purchase
I'm delighted with this purchase. It's the perfect shelf for my school binders and text books. It was easy to assemble and a great fit for the area I have placed it in. The quality is exceptional for the price, it's a classy looking piece of furniture. I have no issues with the smell of it as a read in a previous review. Mine has no odor. I was skeptical purchasing furniture through Amazon but Amazon proves to stand behind their customer service and products. I'm VERY happy and you will be too if you buy it :)

Ideal shelf
Not sturdy per se but it is sturdy enough and functional for what I needed it for

Good, reliable flat-pack.
[Pat’s True Review: I bought this. 2020] This is the third piece of furniture I purchase on Amazon from Winsome Wood and, as with the other two, I am left fully satisfied. As far as affordable flat pack go, I’ve seen a lot worse and not much better. You have to understand that these are built to a price, so more than anywhere, you get what you pay for. Winsome Wood Keeps price low by using creative designs and cutting down on the frills. However, they do not skimp below what would be an acceptable level of quality: The OSB is fairly rigid, the connecting pieces are of decent quality, the veneer looks good if obviously thin. Instructions are well documented and easy to follow. Construction makes sense. Final product isn’t a heirloom you’ll leave your kids, but looks good. This is perfect if you need something utilitarian on the cheap, or for an unbudgeted expense needed in the now... Or, if like me, you'd rather do furniture assembly than tabletop puzzles during a pandemic quarantine. I am very satisfied. Good job.

it has a strong smell
It's a nice little cabinet, it was easy to assemble and it has a nice rich look to it, but the main problem I have with it, is it has a really strong chemical type smell. It stunk up my dining room as well as my living room. I've had to put it outside, hoping the smell goes away. because I threw out the box to be able to return it

Worst Item Ever Purchased
Do not buy this item. It passes in images as a nice piece of furniture, but it's cheap and poorly built. Edges were scratched out of the box. Wood split during assembly. Big stickers that can't be removed on the back of the back panel of the shelf. Due to its poor design, I was unable to disassemble this item and am currently fighting with Amazon over how to get my refund. I also bought the Winsome Wood Liso End Table/Printer Table and won't even open the box it shipped in. I won't ever buy from this manufacturer again. I'm currently exploring local options. This has been a nightmare. If you want quality, go buy in person where you can see the quality firsthand.
