Robin Hood (Calla Editions)

Original Scribners PLUS Pyle drawings
This is a great combination of book and illustrators. It is a republishing of the 1917, Paul Creswick/Scribners classic Robin Hood story with N.C. Wyeth's full color paintings (and double page endpapers), AND it includes 13 b&w plates taken from Howard Pyle's own version of Robin Hood, from 1889, 28 years earlier. Together they make a new classic. This story and art are the basis for Robin Hoods from Errol Flynn to Sean Connery. Pyle was the top illustrator of his period, and Wyeth (for books) from his. Wyeth even studied under Pyle, and the art blends wonderfully. This would be a 5 star review, except for the Chapter 3/4 misprint. Chapter 3 begins again immediately after Chapter 3 ends, but labeled as Chapter 4. Then 7 pages later Chapter 4 (labeled correctly as Chapter 4) actually begins.

Not many illustrations, very disappointing
This hardcover Calla edition published in 2018 has only 9 color illustrations in a 358 page book and only 13 black and white. They are very few and very far between. Most are of some insignificant moment that don't give you the "feeling" of the story, or just barely. The only good one is on the cover. Chapter 3 is printed twice, only labelled chapert 4 the second time around. Very disappointed. Not worth the money. Does not even compare to the Calla editions published earlier with plentiful illustrations.
