The Lying Game #2: Never Have I Ever

Fantastic Series
It was a fantastic series. Kept me on the edge of my seat. You feel sorry for Emma who is living in a world of fear and chaos. There is only has one person she can share her true self and feelings with. The end takes a shocking turn. I did however suspect who the suspected the killer it was only a gut feeling I had. There was never anything pointing to them until their identity is exposed.

Love this series!!
Again I started watching the series and was disappointed it was canceled. I finally have the time to read the books now and absolutely love them so far!! Of course the book is so much better than the series. It’s so different but I love the book because I’m finding out way more than I did in the series. Can’t wait to read more!!!

Interesting, enjoyable read. Good for PPl fans.
I am going to just be quick and to the bottom line, enough has been said about this book.I am enjoying this book because it is similar to Pretty Little Liars. This book is written better than the first and is an improvement from the Lying Game book. The Author starts to gain flow with her writing about half way though the 2nd book. You could actually start this series with the 2nd book in my opinion, although i am glad i read the first one.I agree, that this book has a few situations that are a bit flawed, and a somewhat unrealistic. Really, not too far off from the situations in PPL. I like this series though, entertaining enough, a great, easy summer read. The ending was exciting and the 3rd book is going well so far. If you have read the 2nd book i would suggest finishing the series.I would gladly read more from this Author; but it seems like, all of Sara Shepard's work happens to be a few versions of "mean girl" stories each with the same concept. I just feel like she wrote the same story a few different ways. She even uses the same names of characters that were in previous books. This is a fun author to read overall, it lacks substance and creativity. I will be on the look out for a new book with an entirely different plot. I would like to see what Ms. Shepard can come up with, but i am not expecting her to be an author that i will purchase countless novels from. So Sara, if you are reading this PLEASE give us fans something new and totally different!

Such a good plot!
No spoilers here.If you enjoy a juicy plot line filled with gossip, drama, and heart stopping terror on occasion, this series is for you. This is book two in the series, and I still haven't figured out who done it.Sara Shepard is a master at writing twisting plots with multiple characters and sub plots that keep the surprises coming. A great read! Can't wait to read the next.

Great Series, Great Condition, Great Price
I LOVED this series. It was a million times better, in my opinion, than PLL and it’s so tragic that the show got canceled. I loved that I was able to read the books to get the full story after seeing the TV version end on somewhat of a cliffhanger. These books are great if you want to read a fun teen drama. The book also came in good condition and for a very reasonable price!

Not Pretty Little Liars but Good
The book is pretty good but this series does not compare to the Pretty Little Liars series. It's a fun read with a great twist that has not been often done.

I feel ridiculous as a grown adult admitting to this, but I love the lying game almost (not quiet) as much as I love PLL. That being said, I guess it's kind of ridiculous to enjoy either or, but somehow I do. Sara Shepard does a great job of really making you engrossed with her characters, despite how unrealistic many of the scenarios or situations may be. I can't help getting sucked into Sutton Mercer and her lying games - it isn't keeping me at the edge of my seat but for some reason it's still really hits the spot. GREAT book, looking forward to reading the next one as soon as I can put this one down ;)

Addictive; Good for the fans, but a Little Flat on characters.
In this installment of Sara Shepard's "The Lying Game" series, Emma Paxton finds herself delving deeper into the mysterious life of her- now dead- twin sister, Sutton Mercer. The unknown murderer seems to be watching her every step and she must carefully maneuver maintaining a low-key investigation into her sister's death whilst not alerting the killer to her intentions. In all honesty, this book is a bit slow. There's a lack of events happening and a lot of the plot happens inside Emma's or Sutton's head. Obviously, we're at a point in the story where many of her conclusions come from very little physical events and moreso the subtle words passed among the characters that are exacerbated to fit Emma/Sutton's own paranoia. The mix of inner dialogue and flashbacks paints the picture of Emma's mental state; she is a confused mess. In a genius way, it's as frustrating to the reader as it should be for our main character. This is honestly, Shepard's genius, creating a character in an extraneous situation that involves the reader in such a way that the reader ends up feeling similar emotions as to what the character is thinking. We're just as confused as Emma is. As shocking as some situations appear to be, readers may not be able to identify, but they can understand. Thankfully, the book does speed up throughout the second half. The book is enumerated with witty one-liners (though not as many as the last book, or anything in the PLL series), deranged plot twists, and unfortunately a severe lack of character development. Shepard seems to be relying on Emma's "every-girl" quality; she fits any role that is demanded of her (as is stated many times in TLG1). Unfortunately, Shepard uses this as a cop-out on any real character development for the live twin, Emma. Although her inner dialogue has many anecdotal sidenotes, her character is not as deeply developed as it was when first introduced in the series. On the other hand, the only character development seems to be that of Sutton as she is the one we are learning more and more about. Lastly, the characterization is subpar at best. Many of the characters are one-dimensional and exhibit the emotional range of a rock. I know, that's because they're all suspects, blah-blah, the minimal amount of development may also be Shepard's strategy throughout this book. As stated before, Emma's mind is in a state of overload and confusion of her "new " life that she has inherited, maybe the one dimensional characters are just that to Emma herself, and we as readers experience that.In conclusion, I would recommend this book for a quick read (took me <5 hours, with breaks in between). Fans of PLL and TLG1 may be slightly disappointed because of the lack of snark and character development and interaction. I have to say, reading a sequel that does not live up to its predecessor is slightly disappointing, but I'll take the loss to find out what happens next. Finally, a shout-out to Amazon Prime for fulfilling my order and sending me the book, the DAY it was released.

Shepard's writing remains breezy and often wryly funny, but the sophomore entry in the Lying Game series stumbles when it commits heavily to a 'twist' I found obvious two hundred pages before it finally pulls the trigger. That made the novel a bit of a chore for me to read.

4 STARS!
Not at the same level of The Lying Game book 1, but a nice sequel. I really like this series, even if it's far way from Pretty Little Liars.
