Since this is the first book I've ever read on how to become a member of the board of directors, I don't have anything to compare it to. However, my five star rating comes from the fact that so much of what I read was an eye opener. Without this book, I would be tinkering about the edges of the knowledge it takes to qualify for board membership. Right now, I know I don't qualify. But, with the knowledge gained from this book, I can make the necessary adjustments to better position myself for an opportunity in the future.

An easy read, practical advice and great insights into the best ways into the boardroom. I read the first version of this book years ago and it was the basis for my success in landing several board seats over the years. The updated version is more impactful and definitely worth studying. The authors have been there and done that and have the right to share their wisdom. If you are seeking a board seat, start with this book. There is no better source of practical advice out there.

This is a very insightful book on how Boards operate and Board decorum. It is very clear in this book that you get a Board seat through networking, which should not be a surprise if you are on any Board. The authors provide a lot of insightful information for new Board members and existing Board members. It is worth your time to read this book if you are on a Board, interested in Board positions or if you want to decide if Board service is for you. Well done! Buy it and you will not regret it!

Excellent book for individuals who would like to join a corporate board. Takes you step-by-step through the process and let you understand exactly what you’re getting into and what the commitment is.

The book is an overly basic look at joining a BofD for the first time. BUT there is very little substance in the book discussing the how, and where to look. The materials seem to be about 10 years out of date.

Good book. Don't wait though. If you think you might be interested in serving on a board of directors, you need to start early in your career preparing.
