Fire the Footman
Every door in my house has a Schlage door KNOB... except the door to my computer room which has this Schlage passage LEVER. People who visit my house seem to think that the hardware store ran out of knobs on the day I showed up. As a matter of fact, my computer room never even had a door on it until I installed one over a year ago. I knew very well exactly what kind of hardware I wanted on that door---and an ordinary knob would not do at all. You see, I like to snack while I'm at the computer---and not just one or two snacks. Actually I am constantly walking back and forth from the kitchen---carrying plates, bags, cups of coffee, sandwiches---whole armfuls of the stuff. A lever makes the door easy to open when your hands are full.The Schlage lever has a nice solid feel to it. It is functional in a way that no knob can ever be. It's very classy looking and just a bit unusual.The only way I could downgrade this review to four stars would be to penalize Schlage for not providing a footman to open the door as I approach---arms full with my latest Dagwood sandwich creation, but the honest truth is: you don't really need a footman when you have this lever type passage set----you can open the door all by yourself regardless of how much you're carrying. (Bad news for the staff at Downton Abbey.) This is a nicely thought out product which will improve the appearance of anyone's mansion.And yes, it's difficult imagining Lord Grantham fetching his own Dagwood sandwich and using his elbow to open this lever passage set.
