They are essentially the same thing. Fairmount tongs is just another name for a hand seamer. However, the forged hand seamers have wider size options. Fairmount tongs are powerful and versatile additions to any toolbox. They are used in HVACR, metal roofing, and many other sheet metal applications.

Can these handle 16oz copper without breaking?

I have used for 29 gauge steel carefully and no problems. Copper should be fine. The seamer is made of cast aluminum.
