Ibanez TS808 Original Tube Screamer Overdrive Pedal

So I've had the TS9 on my board for over 25 years. I didn't believe that the extra $ for the 808 could be worth it. And I loved my TS9 anyway, so why go changing? I read a bunch of reviews, I watched a few videos comparing different editions of the tube screamer, and the consensus seemed to be that the difference is subtle. Well, I got curious and took the bait And I'm So Glad I Did. Subtle difference? Not to my ear. The 808 is so much warmer and smoother. It's got a rich tone that I'm now truly in love with. Oh, my #1 axe is an American Standard strat that I modded with Texas Special pups. And it loves the 808 as much as I do.

Awesome Overdrive. Very smooth and not harsh sounding. Plus, it will not alter the natural tone of your amp. Should’ve bought one years ago.

I like the ts9 but it sounds harsh compared to the ts808. The tst808 is more natural sounding. Buy it. You'll like it

Great pedal, more than lives up to its reputation.

There's one rule you must consider when considering a purchase audio products. The rule is this: It's impossible to get people to agree on an opinion for anything audio related.WIth that said, I spent a lot of time reading reviews from people who knock and praise this pedal.This pedal deliver phenomenal overdrive (think of overdriving a tube amp with tube rectifier). it's style of clipping gives a more vintage and warm feel of OD, especially compared to a boss sd-1When compared to a boss bd-2 it may sound less warm but not to fear but pedal is plenty warm and the "less warmth" is an illusion. I've found that this "less warm" feeling is not really the warm of the pedal rather the EQ. Just twist into the "+" mode and your problem is solved.Overall, this is a nice, sturdy, warm overdrive. I am personally glad i purchased over a TS9 or bd-2. I naturally chose it over a ts-808 because of price but i also because i'm not a huge fan of the sound of a ts-808.hope this helps.

I'm using it with a Fender Deluxe Reverb.. I don't often crank the amp, so at first I thought "where'd the bass frequencies go?" If you turn up, they're there, but actually even if you don't turn it up, it creates a pretty complex and pleasing overdrive. I bout the TC Electronics MojMojo at the same time...It's got the BASS no matter what volume, and I like it too! Still, this unit just sounds a bit more pleasing to the ear and to my taste it all seems to depend on the "tone" knob. I keep that near 11:00 or less and I really like it, although I can see why people would like to crank it over to 3o'clock; but that sound just doesn't appeal to me that much. So far, worthwhile pedal for the Amp I'm using it with.

I purchased the same tube screamer 808 reissue in 2007 and I loved it. Last year the pedal switch stopped working so I couldn't turn the pedal off. It is the pedal that I use the most with my tube amp because of how it colors the sound. So I had to replace it with the exact same version of tube screamer. Despite my concern about the new pedal not sounding like the one it's replacing, to my surprise they sound sound identical. Whatever they are doing in Japan where they manufacture these pedals they must have stuck with the same components and manufacturing process because I can't tell a difference between the two despite them being 16 years apart in age. Good job Ibanez.

The item has a well deserved and respected reputation among guitarists globally. If ever there be an item to give your new young guitarist. This would be it. (Or they certainly get one on their own)

Classic and it works... would have given 5 but the price should be about the same as the TS9.

Great service from Old-New Japan. Got my pedal from Japan in just 9 days from ordering, 1 day ahead of the delivery window. This is a great pedal with a lovely warm tone. I run the guitar through a BD2 into this TS808 and then a little reverb and a touch of delay and it sounds amazing. Very pleased and so will the neighbours be.
