Great product with few drawbacks
Overall, the product is incredibly easy to install and works great with a Smart-Things hub. I had a few issues that I will go into below, however they were all self-inflicted and not something that should count against the product. I'm very happy with the product so far. Here are my 'cons' with the product. Take these with a grain of salt because they are minor and wouldn't prevent me from buying the product again in the future:1) The 1st unit I received had to be returned due to being defective. I called tech support *twice* to troubleshoot and they concluded they I had a bad tilt sensor. Turns out, that there was no problem. The issue was that I didn't have the back cover attached to the tilt sensor during my testing. I told tech support multiple times on each call that the device was in my hand and that I was able to push the little button on the PCB, because I didn't want to stick it to my door until I verified it worked properly. They should have picked up on the fact the back wasn't on the sensor, but didn't.When I received my replacement unit and had the exact same issue, I figured the issue had to be *me* somehow. I noticed the status for the tilt sensor would update when I tapped the button on the PCB and in a moment of pure frustration, I held down the button as I clicked the app on my phone to open/shut the door. Things worked! It was then that I took a closer look at the back plate and noticed that it would push in the button when attached. If GoControl reads this, I would strongly recommend that you update your Troubleshooting steps paperwork in the box to have the user verify the back is on the tilt sensor before use. I can't be the only person to want to verify functionality before I permanently attaching something to my ceiling/garage door/etc.2) Alexa will tell me if my door is open/closed, however it will not shut/open the door for me. I feel like I should be able to say "Alexa, shut the garage door". I view this as a limitation (or security concern) within Alexa, so I'm not about to remove any stars for it.One thing I would love to be able to change about the device would be the 'beeping delay' before the door closes. I think it beeps for about 5 seconds. It'd be nice to have that be configurable so that I could cut that in half. It's just a bit annoying to hear it beep for so long. Again, this is likely a safety issue so I understand why they have this configured like they do, but I'd still like to override it.

QOLSYS and Genie Compatibility
1. This product works with the QOLSYS IQ2 panel, despite not being listed as such. QOLSYS lists the GD00Z-4 as compatible, but is currently unavailable and significantly more expensive than this option. The QOLSYS is a great alarm panel, but leaves much to be desired as a Q-Wave automation hub. In particular, it offers no control over Q-Wave device parameters and very poor trouble-shooting tools.2. This product works with Genie Intellicode II operators without modification. I have one connected to Genie IS550/A operator attached in parallel with the standard wall-mounted push button.3. This product works with Genie Intellicode III (new) operators with a simple hack. Add a Genie GWWC-R Wireless Wall Console and connect the GoControl's outputs to the top and bottom solder connections of the open/close micro-switch. It may also be possible to adapt the standard wired wall console in a similar manner. In any case, one cannot connect the GoControl's outputs directly to the Genie operator as the wall console sends a coded signal and does not respond to the GoControl's momentary closed contact.4. In my installation, the QOLSYS panel is located at one end of my long, narrow urban lot and my garage is located at the other end, as far apart as possible. I had to add an Aeotec range extender to establish a Q-Wave connection between the panel and the Go Controls. The IQ panel's lack of diagnostics made it very difficult to ascertain that the failure of the installation to work was due to a range limitation.5. The items were listed as used. One unit had signs of the control wire being unwrapped. Both units showed signs of the adhesive mounting tape having been removed from the door tilt sensors. Nevertheless, the condition of both units was excellent. The cost savings over new units was very significant and I am very pleased.6. As far as technical support goes, I didn't contact the manufacturer, so I've given a neutral rating. There's good deal of information available on the web about installing these devices. There are many inaccurate and incomplete descriptions about connecting to the Q-Wave hub and connecting the door tilt sensors, and they conflict with the provided printed instructions. So, if you decide to go this route, be prepared for some frustration. Unfortunately, for me, there are no other workable alternatives. I purchased two other Q-Wave garage door controllers and couldn't get them to work. You might ask, "Why Q-Wave". Because I have secondary alarm panels at my front and rear doors which have Q-Wave connectivity. A WiFi solution would have necessitated the addition of another panel at each door, and another if I wanted control at my main alarm panel too.In closing. I'm happy with the results, but it took a good deal of effort to make this work.

Customer Service from Nortek?? Pfffft...
I (like a moron) have owned several of their products and would give them an negative 5 rating if I could.. The GD00z-8 uses encryption to connect to Smartthings hub... After spending over 3 hrs and calling Nortek support, they punted and said call Samsung. This was purchased to replace my GD00z-4 that failed after 2 yrs.So, I thought, lets get a second GD00z-4 to replace original (to avoid encryption) and guess what: Same problems... won't connect to hub. so, called Nortek a second time after they blamed ST.. Guess what, they literally took less than a minute to throw it over the wall to Samsung. They don't know how to troubleshoot their products with their customers or third-party partners... You've been warned... good luck.. Me, I'm out.. No more GoControl....Edit- meross Smart Garage Door Opener working great after years of the GoControl junkEdit- 01/23/23- meross still going strong... GoControl: well, not so much.

Smart Control of garage door
It took several attempts to get the device recognized by my hub. I set it up next to my Z-Wave hub (Qolsys IQ2) as recommended. It had worked flawlessly since being installed, with both garage door operation and open/closed status now available on my alarm panel and app. This device has already saved me many trips back home to double check that the garage door was closed, and has allowed me to close it remotely when it was left open.
