Good book
This is a good book with some great information. The only one of its kind that I've found if you want better control over the speed of the spindle on your Gingery lathe. I feel that it's not quite as clear as Gingery's writings though. I had to read parts of it several times to fully understand how the mechanism is supposed to work. That could just be me though. It's only 56 pages long and while there are gears involved there's no discussion on how to cut those gears. Make sure you've read Gingery's 6th book, The Dividing Head & Deluxe Accessories, before you buy this book. If you can't handle the projects in that book you'll never be able to complete the projects in this book. Ideally, if you're interested in this book you've all ready been through the entire Build Your Own Metal Working Shop From Scratch series or are planning to go through them.I do like the way Mr. Guthrie changes the drive on the lathe. It makes it look much more neat and professional. It's a nice book with some good information. I plan to include these back gears in my lathe when I build it.Since it's only 56 pages though it could be a little cheaper though. The Dividing head book is only $9 and it's three times the length of this book. Like I said this is the only book I've found with this type of information for the Gingery lathe so...

Covers just what I needed
A good book to finish the Gingery lathe to a complete machine able to do thread cutting and have the power for slow turning.
