Q: Does automatic mean both opening and closing?

Yes you push the button the umbrella opens. Then when fully opened the button is pushed and the umbrella closes. You still have to gather it up and snap down to make it into the small package.It's a great combination of small size large enough umbrella and I recommend it.

Q: Does this have a sleeve to cover the umbrella when it is closed?

No. This one doesn't come with it.

Q: Dose it prevent UV ray?

I'm sorry to tell you...but I don't know, bought it for my son to take to school should there be any rain
