Vanessa Ann's My Grandmother Taught Me to Crochet

This is one of the finest and best crochet books I own. You must have a knowledge of crochet, not a great knowledge but enough to know how to do a row or a round.I would recommend this book to anyone that asked about a good well rounded subject wise crochet book.It has small items to large projects to make and how to make them, some easily and some not so easy.Pick up you hook and thread or yarn and have fun with this book!

I have quite an extensive collection. So it's hard to impress me. If you look at the front cover, the ottoman is absolutely gorgeous. If that doesn't appeal to you, there are afghans and some very unique edgings. It's a very wonderful addition to my collection.

this was a huge disappointment. the pictures are way too dark and there isn't much actually in the way of crochet. The patterns have a lot of material attached to the crochet. Was hoping for more things like full crochet patters - table cloths, runners, doilies etc. If I had to do again I would not buy this book.

Beautiful book. There are patterns for tabletop, bedroom decor, dolls, christening gown, etc.

I am writing this under my husband's account:If you are looking for mostly vintage, mostly Victorian-inspired designs, this book is for you.I have owned this title since it was first published in 1992; I have made nothing from it for myself or anyone in my life, since about 1998.The basic techniques and stitches can be transferred to other, fresher, newer projects as you come across them, but the color schemes here are mainly peach, pink, and pale green, with a few white and ecru threadwork designs thrown in. I could see some of the more highly colored, thread-crochet items being reworked in plain white or ecru instead, making them much more usable today.Bobbles, puffs, bows and ribbons are pretty much out these days, and a good number of the designs do rely on those as main accents or design motifs.Some items, such as the very lovely, old-fashioned, Rock a Bye Baby pillow are simply too impractical for general use, or just not safe for childen, let alone infants. Far too much loose, crocheted yardage and ribbons involved in this pillow--it will be decorative only, and never put in a child's crib or bed. The tucking and overall look is lovely and sweet, though; perhaps if you shortened the number of edging rows, and left out that ribbon...Of the 50 patterns, I could see myself possibly making 7 or 8, but no more. Most are just too frilly or girly in design, with no items really suitable for men or boys. And, any items I masde would be gifts for others, as my home is no longer decorated in this more elaborate and lacy style.

Very cute thread wrist purse-hold thread in while crocheting!Several style afghans, Lacey thread tablecvr,Thread X-mas trees-stiffened and several designs for thread edged linens,star flower linen motifs joined by thread crochet.Overall I found thsi to be a lovely book with great directions, projects for all levels of crochet skill. You can work your way up in experience with the various projects in this book while making wonderful gifts and decor for your home.
