A lot of watch for the money
I purchased this watch new on Amazon for $385.00 while Bulova's website lists it for $716.00. I don't know if I'd consider it a steal at Bulova's price - it is Japanese-made rather than Swiss- - but I'd probably consider Bulova's price to be within a reasonable range, and I do consider Amazon's price to be excellent. This is a *very* nice watch. I'm just a watch enthusiast and not possessed of any great, deep knowledge of horology, but I know something about watches, I know a lot about quality, and I know when I'm impressed, and I'm impressed with this watch. It's got a lot going for it. It's a Bulova; it's got a Japanese movement (which I consider second-best to a Swiss movement, which is to say I have a lot of respect for Japanese movements); it's an automatic with multiple complications (it's hard, if not nearly impossible, to find a high-quality automatic with multiple complications at this price); it's drop-dead gorgeous, perfectly suited to even the dressiest of occasions, and it *feels* mechanically amazing. I was pleased when I took it out of its box (though the outer slipcase of the box looked like it had been through the wars, everything from the inner box on down was in fine, brand-new condition), but it was when I went to set it that I said, "oooh, *nice*..." out loud to myself. Operations involving the crown - winding (which you can do manually with this watch) and setting alike - have a smoothness to them that I don't think any of my other watches, including my ~$900.00 Swiss-made Louis Erard, can equal. The watch has a hacking movement, which is nice (that means that the second hand stops when you pull the crown out all the way, which aids in setting the time precisely), a power reserve meter (which not only looks cool but is very helpful in choosing the correct number of turns per day (TPD) to give this watch in your watch winder (I've found through trial and error that 1000 TPD bi-directional is perfect for this watch), and complications for the day of the week, the date, and the current hour on the 24-hour clock. The case is of a pretty large diameter, but not so big that it looks or feels unwieldy on my thin little chicken wrist. The alligatored leather band is comfortable, and I'm a big fan of butterfly clasps like this one that relieve you of having to determine the right sizing all over again every time you put the watch on. And it's accurate: mine has gained 22 seconds in the 14 days that I've had it. That works out to 1.57 seconds per day. Wowie. The only thing that I might consider a quirk is that the day dial seems to progress evenly in its travel, such that it will still be pointing to Monday, for example, when we're actually several hours into Tuesday. I didn't stay up late enough last night to be sure of exactly how it moves, but that's how it looks based on what I've seen so far. Which just means that if you're trapped in a room with no windows for long enough to be unsure of whether it's night or day, you might not be sure what day of the week it is either. Though I think a combination ofa) understanding this about the movement of the day hand,b) looking at the hand on the 24-hour dial, andc) a little mental calculationwill probably help you figure out what day it really is.It's just a really nice watch - it's my current favorite out of four, including that beautiful Louis Erard that I get many compliments on - and if you're thinking about it I would definitely recommend snagging one of these while Amazon has them for less than $400.00. It is, as I say, a lot of watch for the money.

A great watch for a reasonable price
Let me start off by saying that Ian's review pretty much says everything you need to know. But I figure if I add my own two cents, maybe it'll help drive home the point: this is a really nice watch, especially considering it from a value perspective. Now ok, I hear you; "$400 doesn't exactly fall in most folks 'Value' category, buddy." Fair point. But when you consider what you're getting (quality Japanese movement, hacking/winding, day, date, hour, and power reserve complications, sapphire crystal, display caseback, nice alligatored leather band with double deployment clasp), that's an awful lot for the money, friends. Throw in what I consider to be an enduring, sophisticated look (opinions differ, of course) and the fact that it only gains about 1.5 seconds per day (mine does, anyway) and this thing starts to look like a really good deal for anyone who's getting into watches but doesn't want to/can't drop 4 or 5 figures on something that is, let's face it, a technology which isn't exactly essential in today's environment. I mean, yeah, it's basically a bracelet, but at least it does something other than look nice. Short answer: if you're on the fence, just buy it, man. I really don't think you'll be disappointed.

A gorgeous automatic men’s watch.
I love this watch, with a minor reservation about the strap. In addition to the Time, Dates and Day it has a power reserve dial that tells you how many hours it will run without further winding. It has the Hacking feature, so when you pull the crown out all the way the second hand stops, as well as the hour and minute hands. This allows you to set the precise time, to the second. I have the white face, which is a little more difficult in lower light situations to read. However, it is very beautiful! It is accurate to about 15 seconds (fast) a day, This is excellent and I much prefer a watch to be fast rather than slow, as I hate to be late.I prefer an automatic movement to any other type movement. It is almost like having the impossible - a perpetual motion machine. No Battery, no winding - YES! I also love the sense I have of its of mechanicalness. You can take it off and watch it working through the clear backMy only reservation is with respect to the very nice leather watch band that has a "click close” so that once it is set i works bit like a metal watch band. It was difficult for me to figure out and I got directions on the internet. I am use to it now, but do not see any real advantage to it, compared the the standard watch strap.Highly recommended!

Beautiful Watch
I love the look and feel of this watch. The only surprise is that it is slow to replenish the reserve. The first day I wore it for 12 hours and it was stopped in the morning. I ordered a winder so I'll see how that works. It's a great value. It looks like a watch costing double the price.

Incredibly beautiful watch...
This watch is an incredibly beautiful timepiece. I love this watch so much, it will be difficult to wear any of the others in my collection! I actually prefer this watch to my TAG/HEUER. This timepiece has a sophisticated appeal...the complications (additional dials and functions) draw one's eye through the sapphire crystal to the intracate features of the face...especially the impressive 40-hour power reserve indicator at the 12 o'clock position.

A Must Have
Stunning watch. Worth every penny and I get compliments on it often. This is my new favorite of the 8 watches I own, 6 of which are Bulova's.
