Super cute children's book with a responsible message
Super cute children's book with a responsible message. Having read and listened to many a children's book with my grandkids, I feel better about this book because it teaches children the importance of recycling and trying to shrink your footprint on our earth. My grandkids are now bragging to me and their friends about what they're doing to achieve success. I'm proud that they are learning at a young age to take care of their neighborhood, their town and even though they don't think quite so big yet, the planet. Because the story isn't told or taught by family members, they are much prouder of their ideas, it doesn't preach. A smart and fun way to approach our planet's survival with young children.

This book is SO GREAT! I read to my first grade class and we had a whole discussion on an Environmental footprint. This book does a great job sparking ideas and leaves room for great open ended responses!

Good discussion-starter
On a trip to the beach, Sandy is horrified at a pile of trash she encouters. As she cleans up the mess, she meets the "Garbage Lady," an eccentric woman who cleans up the beach. The Garbage Lady teaches Sandy about her environmental "footprint" and how to reduce it. The illustrations were created using recycled and natural material. My eight-year-old son hadn't heard of the term "environmental footprint," so we had fun talking about what that meant, and what we as a family do to reduce our footprint.I have included this book in my online Gender Equality Bookstore.

A fantastic book for a variety of ages!
I've read this book to people of all ages from 4 years old to adults (most of whom can read it on their own). I have yet to meet anyone who is not charmed by the writing style, the striking visuals, and the simple and direct message contained in it. It avoids being preachy while still getting its message across. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good book for a young child.

Great Introduction to Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling!
I bought this for one of my nieces' 5th birthday. I was a little surprised because she can be hard to please but she really liked it! She also paid attention during the story which she has trouble doing. And then best of all, she told me that she and I are going to start picking up trash that we find on the street and throwing it away! :)
