Build an Extreme Green Solar Hot Water Heater

Not What I Expected
I will say it did answer a few questions in my mind and I do intend to build a hot water version as well as a hot air version of a heating system.Everything I studied in the book was expensive. I have researched solar systems since 1973. I had just gotten my first electric bill for heating our new total electric home and it was over $300. Since then I have covered many systems and this one is way to expensive for my pocket book.

Solar Hot Water
Excellent. I have been studying alternative energy since 1979. Grassroots design and build. A system like this is $3000 to $4000 on Amazon. Just search for the hybrid hot water system and see. This can be fully completed under $800. Buy this book.

Another 4 stars for the subject matter and a big BOO for kindle PC
For anyone wanting to build their own solar collector, this is a great tool. Like others have said, follow the directions with respect to the materials specified. I do have a real problem with the Kindle version. Having read the last post, as well as the response it received, there is an issue with Kindle PC being very inconvenient. Unless you have a laptop, you're stuck with running back and forth between the shop and your PC, since there is no ability to print anything, due to DRM protection. This is understandable if the book were in print, which it ISN'T. There's also a "KindlePC converter", which will turn it into Acrobat, but why pay $29.95 to convert something you paid 3 dollars for? I tried to find this book in Acrobat form, and did find mention that it had been available in Acrobat form for years. If you're stuck with a desktop, find the PDF version. Additionally, there was also a mention of using the note feature to copy and paste into another application in the response - also mentioning that the formatting would be lost. The fact is, some of the formatting got corrupted in the conversion to Kindle from the original PDF.

More complicated than what I need
For the right person I am sure this would be a good book. I am in Haiti so I don't need a heat exchanger. The collector won't freeze. I need a simpler system. I thought the diagrams looked helpful. It just wasn't.what I was looking for.

hot water
I am very impresed with the plans for this solar hot water system. I think it was easy to understand and complete with material lists and where to get them. I am looking forward to building one soon.

Excellent Book - Where's the Print Edition?
This is an excellent book with clear and well thought out plans. With a little investment of time and the parts listed, you will have a worthy product that will save money and provide satisfaction. However, given that I don't have my computer next to my power saw etc, having a print edition would make it a lot easier to build. What about a way to at least print out the parts lists and pertinent diagrams? Naturally, printing an e-book is a bit backwards, but lets also be practical. I'm not about to haul my kindle or laptop to the shop or outside on the roof.A printable form of the plans would make it five stars.

Cookbook style DIY
If you just want to build this particular solar water heater, this book is great. Very little discussion of other possibilities of design variants.
