Honest review from a LONGTERM Scooby Doo fan.
Preface: I grew up watching Scooby Doo. I've loved almost every incarnation too, because to me, there is no such thing as "ruining" Scooby Doo. Every incarnation, reboot, remake, whatever you wanna call it brought us something new to the table. And now, a generation of kids are going to watch this movie and hopefully want to watch the original movies and shows and to me, that already makes this movie five stars. But on I go to actually review. First, if you're a HUGE fan like me, here are some things you might be dissapointed about. The generic formula doesn't apply here really. That's one thing the movie is lacking, that quintessential haunted MYSTERY vibe. There is a mystery here, but it's not as spooky or classic as the old show. Also, obviously, the voice actors aren't the same as the classics. For that, I have to say SHAME ON YOU WB/HB. Grey De Lisle and Matthew Lillard are cult classics, and the fandom ADORES them, and the way they've been cast aside is deplorable. However, with that being said, Gina, Amanda, Will and Zac all did AMAZINGLY as the gang, I think. One other thing I disliked was the way it was trying SO HARD to be relevant to kids (i.e the dabbing, the pop culture references "all I do is win" etc.) it just felt really cringy to me at times. Kind of like it was missing some authenticity. Fans, you'll also miss Velma's classic sass in this, too. However, for every thing I didn't like, SCOOB! turned around and gave me so much to love. For one, the throwbacks to the classic era of Scooby Doo were an instant teargrab for me. I was sobbing within 2 minutes of watching. Involving the Dick Dasterdly and Muttley was a stroke of genius too for all of us who grew up watching Boomerang. Getting to see Mystery Inc's heroic origins was also just brilliant and heartwarming. Honestly, there's so much I could praise, but if I praised everything I loved, I'd never stop. A few quick things are the beautiful new character designs, the characterizations (Daphne's big, beautiful heart!!! She's such an amazing person I'd die for her), and Dick's whole character in this (it's just PERFECT, if not a little over the top). This movie has so much heart, you guys. Whether you're a new fan, or an old time Scooby Doo lover, you won't come out from watching this without crying at least once. The moral of this movie is that you can depend on your friends. Scooby and Shaggy are the most loyal people on tv, in my opinion, and they're great role models for kids. And if you think about it, that's the moral of all the Scooby Doo movies. Take out all the mystery stuff, and it's just about a group of friends, and a boy and his dog. In that regard, SCOOB! captured that perfectly.I heavily recommend renting this if you can. It's a cute movie and there's a few good jokes in there too. But DAPH-inetily have a box of tissues handy. You'll need it.

Scooby Doo is AWESOME just like all of the other talking dogs in the history of talking dogs!
Mostly it's the main character Scooby Doo I like very much, because he's a talking dog,and talking dogs are awesome! And after I noticed the Blue Falcon's always thinking about magicians,he gave me an awesome idea. An magic show at the Venice Beach in California where Scooby Doo's gonna be dressed as a magician (Only his hat) and asks for a volunteer in the audience. Either me, Shaggy or maybe Blue Falcon. And in the very end of the epilogue after the credits, the dialogue goes like this.Scooby Doo: "So, you wanna stick around and enjoy the fun, or have you got to get home for dinner?"Tiger Lee: "Well, I plan to-- Dinner? Oh, my gosh, I forgot!"

Not enough Ascot
This was just OK. It did a decent job of explaining the Mystery, Inc gang, and Scooby and Shaggy's relationship was front and center. Velma as a latina was an interesting choice. Daphne wasn't nearly as interesting as she was in the iconic "Mystery, Incorporated" series of 2010. I really feel that the minor role that Freddie's ascot played was a detriment. Brian, the Blue Falcon's son was an interesting choice. It just wasn't as focused on what everyone comes to see, a mystery actually getting solved. The Scooby Gang is famous for solving what appear to be supernatural mysteries. This movie did not have a mystery as the major plot line. In fact, we were all left wondering why Dick Dastardly was even the main villain. Dastardly wasn't a great Mystery Inc, villain, as he wasn't an ordinary person using some technology to appear supernatural as a basis to frighten people for monetary or ideological gain. Getting Muttley back doesn't count, and besides, Dastardly conned Muttley into going through the gateway, he harmed himself.I'd like to specifically call out the inclusion of Simon Cowell (as himself!) as a low point. He was an unnecessary minor villain. What in tarnation? Cowell was only there to do the double-unmasking at the end. There was an over-inclusion of old Hanna-Barbera characters and references in general. This probably flew right over the average zoomer's head, and basically damaged the movie. References to older Scooby Doo series and movies were much more subtle, and welcome. The writers and animators clearly have a soft spot for the Scooby gang.

My kids love it!
You can be critical as an adult of movies made of your childhood cartoon heros. Or you could look at the movie through your kids eyes instead. Regardless of what grown-ups may think of this movie, my kids loved it. It makes them laugh and brings in old Hanna-Barbara characters into the story. Scooby-Doo will live on as long as they keep making new films of Scooby and the gang for kids today to enjoy. And that's all that matters.
