A Horrible Disappointment
I am so disappointed in every way with this product.I'm that person that usually buys the budget $500 PC laptop, thinking "if I just take care of it, this will last me". The result has been I've burned through a laptop every 1-2 years. They start off reliable, but conveniently crap out a couple weeks after their warranty expires, every time. This time I decided to be a bit smarter and spend more - thinking it would be a better investment because I'd end up with something that lasted me far longer. After researching and agonizing over every article I could find about PCs under $1000, I settled on this HP Envy as the thing to invest half of my meager savings account into. From the very first couple weeks, I've had issues with the touch screen. It will randomly start to malfunction, as if some invisible finger is tapping repeatedly in one corner of the screen. Random blotches appear on the screen sometimes, too. This doesn't happen every time I load the computer - it appears totally randomly. Because of this, when I have tried to explain the problem (once at the Windows, Three times when talking to a representative on the phone, Once when I sent the computer in for an unrelated repair) it was completely ignored like I was making it up or something. The response I got was 1) it's water damage (impossible) or 2) my windows software must not be updated (wha-?)Furthermore, I got this computer because I had seen that it was highly rated as an option for graphic designers on a budget. I use Photoshop and Illustrater occasionally for editing photographs as well as for some graphic design. I have had no luck running either on this computer. It frequently freezes and crashes, and I have lost my work multiple times. Lately, I can't even open larger files with photoshop because the computer totally freezes. At one point, the fan just totally gave out from out of nowhere. It started making horrible, grating sounds whenever I tried to turn on my computer.Which leads me to my final point, the atrocious customer service. When I called to report what was going on with the fan, I was told that it was because I needed to update my Windows software. Now, I'm no computer genius but I can tell that there is a difference between a HARDWARE and a SOFTWARE issue. I told the person on the phone that the sounds my computer was making were so horrible I thought it was best to not even turn it on. They insisted, so I even held my phone up to the computer - "Do you hear that? That is not normal!" But this hapless customer service rep was determined to lead me, step-by-step through whatever checklist he had been coached on. He didn't pass me through to a supervisor until I told him my computer was overheating. Only then was was I told that I could send it in for repairs (thankfully, it was still under warranty).Every time I called customer service it was a similar waste of time. I feel bad for the customer service reps - they barely speak English and they're trying to help irate foreign customers with their computer problems but it is clear that they are NOT really IT people, they don't know what they're doing beyond a prescribed checklist that their company gives them. They will also spend the whole time blaming the problem on YOU. One time that I called I was told that my computer was running slow because I had too many programs on it. Like SPOTIFY?!?! Just to be clear here I don't use my computer for much else besides work, I've never even uploaded music files from my external, all I have on my computer besides Spotify is Adobe and Microsoft Works. But even if I had some games and larger files a computer like this SHOULD be able to run them without issues! While I was waiting for my computer to be repaired I borrowed my boyfriend's old "loaner" mac that he got over 5 years ago. That thing is a mess of random crap saved to it over the years, by several different people. Everything from gigs of music to large movie files. It ran better better than the HP I'd been struggling with for the past year.I've finally learned my lesson, and next time I manage to have $900 to spend on a computer, I'll get a mac. Save yourself time and frustration and get one too .

Great, but HP needs to consider what programs to preinstall
ProsEverything works great, it's fast, boots in seconds, the screen is terrific and adapting to windows8 is not as terrible as I thought it would beCons-The laptop seems much bigger than a 15'' screen, at first I was unsure if Amazon had sent me a 17'' by mistake-The amount of software preinstalled by hp is ridiculous, I haven't had the chance to remove the unwanted programs but it feels as if you were getting a used computer instead of a new one with that many apps running in your start screen

Not happy with touchpad
This is a high end machine, but the touchpad is overly sensitive and times and not sensitive enough other times. Also it would be better with separate "mouse" buttons instead of being integrated with the pad. The touchscreen is an absolute must with windows 8.

almost US$ 900 in the garbage. Not only that
I will never buy a HP product again for the rest of my life. After only 1 year of use, the case of my laptop started to come apart. Only one week later, I could not turn it in anymore... Result: almost US$ 900 in the garbage. Not only that, going to the local repair shop, I was informed that I was not the only one. So, it seems that this is a design flaw of the laptop.Anyway, I cannot explain what happened. However, when something so expensive becomes useless after only 1 year, the conclusion is clear: avoid this product!!!

No regrets after a month with laptop.
I got this laptop as a gift for a graphic design student and she's loved it! Running Adobe imaging software (Illustrator, Photoshop, etc) is a snap. Everything runs quickly and smoothly right out of the box. The touch screen is very responsive and is nice to have for Windows 8. Also had no problem hooking up and using a Wacom tablet with the laptop.Overall very happy with this purchase!

Disposable laptop
Good laptop but they seem to degrade after about 18 months of use... laptops these days are meant to be disposable.

Other than that I have really come to enjoy this computer
The only downside is that there is no CD-ROM port, so you cannot watch DVD's, listen to CD's or burn CD's. Other than that I have really come to enjoy this computer. I love the sound quality of the beats audio and the touch screen capability. It runs softly and the touch keys are soft too.

Perfect for my needs!
Perfect for my needs. Great value, solid performance and platform. I'll probably add more memory to it but the laptop is rock solid. Well put together, and HP assistant was great in getting the laptop up and running in no time with all the current updates; which was really easy to do.
