The Last Will And Testament Of A Joker
Starring Alastair Sim, this comedy is about the relatives of a famed joker being brought together for the reading of his will. For a chance to inherit £50,000 each relative is set an unusual challenge, designed to reflect their shortcomings and change them for the better. One of the relatives is Alastair Sim a law-abiding retired army general, who secretly writes scandalous novels, but he has to get himself arrested and jailed for 28 days. Very funny throughout, this comedy is a delight

Never mind Paradise, there were laughs all the way through in this house
An amazing line up of actors, led by the incomparable Alastair Sim as a 'penny dreadful' writer, with the wonderful Joyce Grenfell as his sniffy fiancee who is totally unaware of how he earns a living. Then there's George Cole, whose talent for comedy and spot-on timing was evident from an early age, and Fay Compton doing the dramatic bit, as an ageing and embittered woman who treats her servants badly and needs to learn a lesson. All these characters hope to inherit large sums of money if they take on frightening dares, and the laughs just keep coming as they go about their farcical business. The supporting cast also do their stuff with surefire precision, and Eleanor Summerfield looks particularly lovely as Sim's secretary who thinks his trashy books are works of art. A very young Audrey Hepburn has a small role as a cigarette girl in a nightclub, but sets the screen alight. Good black and white print, decent sound - no subtitles or extras.

Wonderful British comedy
Fantastic cast of British character actors. A great story that is still funny and relevant. Would be a good basis for a modern remake. Great quality too like watching a piece of history.
