Mikuni Primer Kit

Great Quality
This primer worked, what more could you ask for! I tried another brand before this one and got dooped with one that flooded my engine. The overall quality difference was immediately apparent and the fact it properly seals is the true test and it passed with flying coolers.

Our WaveRunners Are No Longer Hard Starting
I just restored 2 WaveRunner 3's (2 cycle single Mikuni carb) we purchased new 27 years ago. These carbs have a choke but no primer. I did have to remove the carbs, drill a hole in the thick part of the castings about midway between the choke and throttle plates, and gently tap in the supplied fitting. I mounted the primers by drilling four holes in the air cleaner covers and fixing them with two tie-wraps around the primer and through the air cleaner cover. I added a third tie-wrap just under the upper tie-wrap and around only the primer to prevent the primer from being pulled up and out with the plunger. If you are used to doing your own maintenance, this is an easy install with the hardest part being finding a good location for the primer. Though I need to open the engine compartment cover to use the primer, it needs to be opened before starting to make sure any fumes are allowed to vent anyway. Two recommendations on installation- > The instructions say to install in the reserve fuel line from the tank. The fuel filter on our WaveRunners is after the Run/Off/Reserve switch so the primer would be drawing unfiltered fuel. Find an in-line fuel filter (I used a lawn mower filter that is semi-translucent off the rack at an auto parts store) and connect it between the tank and the supplied Tee. I also bought 1/4 inch clear fuel line to put before and after the filter so I can make sure the fuel is flowing. My first primer failed to pump after one day and SMART Powersports sent a replacement quickly. This happened before I put in the filter and I have since wondered though I had thoroughly cleaned the tanks if there was some particle in the old fuel line that may have caused the primer problem. > Though the instructions are very minimal, I would recommend using a tie-wrap at each fuel fitting as a minimum. The supplied fuel line fits very securely and would probably be OK without, but all the original Yamaha fuel lines were secured with them and I did not want to risk a leak. These WaveRunners have always been extremely hard to get started cold. I am experimenting on how many pumps to get them running and it looks like 8 might be my magic number. They now start immediately from cold and without the choke. I have an old 1973 Honda motorcycle I bought new and restored a few years ago and my wife has a 2006 Suzuki that are both carburated with chokes. They are also very hard starting and I will be ordering the twin carb kits for them.

Great primer
Prior to buying this primer I bought the no brand cheap one, so I have the comparison. This one really pumps the gas as it should. Money well invested.

Works Well, No Brass Inlet Connector
This was installed on my 1993 Kawasaki JS650SX jet ski which was a bear to start when cold. Fires up in a few seconds now with just a few pumps of the primer. Please Note, the brass inlet connector shown in the product photo and description is NOT INCLUDED with the shipment.
