🆒
It’s a very real message, we are always in danger, even when we’re with someone we love ? People are never what they seem to be but the people to watch out for are the ones that seem to be what they are not …

Very good
Love Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips' work and this is no exception. A short book but still a very good read. Only disappointment being, no articles at the end nor an introduction (always enjoy those in the comics and other books). Totally recommended

Smart, melancholic story
A young woman with secrets, fresh to rehab, finds love and with it, a reason to abscond. Smart, melancholic story of crime, addiction, inevitability, and trust. Billed as a Criminal novella, this stand-alone graphic story comes at noir from an unusual – though fitting – angle. Recommended.

Brubaker and Phillips great combo
Not his best but still better than 99% of other graphic novels. You rarely go wrong with this pair.

Short tale from Brubaker & Phillips about a rehab clinic and the characters there.
Ellie is in a rehab clinic telling everyone about the benefits of taking drugs while befriending Skip. The story takes a different direction as we discover her ulterior motive. It’s a good yarn, slightly different and rewarding, mainly concentrating on the two main characters as we find out more about them. Enjoyable stuff.

My favourite Criminal story yet!
This is a short original graphic novel set in the Criminal universe, and I think it might have been my favourite yet.For the most part it's a character piece about a drug addict who doesn't want to get clean. We learn a bit about why she feels the way she does and how she ended up in rehab, but is there more to her story than what we're being told..?This is the first book in the Criminal series that is coloured by Jacob Phillips, and I loved it. It gives Sean Phillips' art a completely different look, almost like each page is it's own piece of pop art.

A short tale of the long con
“Criminal - My Heroes Have Always Been Junkies” is a graphic novella, listed as being in the “Criminal” series by the creators, Brubaker & Philips. If you read their “crime” stories, then you will find that this is an excellently-crafted stand-alone story in that milieu. If you are unfamiliar with their crime stories, then you will still find that this is an excellently-crafted stand-alone story in that milieu, AND you will have many more volumes, both stand-alone and series, to then hunt down and read. This seems to be a straightforward story, despite the female lead making the odd cryptic comment, until, of course, the real story reveals itself. This book is printed on a heavy matte-stock, similar to what DC started using recently, but here the artist/colourist hasn’t been caught out, unlike so many of DC’s artists, by the change from glossy stock. If you are wondering about the title, the female lead’s taste in music runs to singers who have had unfortunate lives and endings thereof.
