Schedule A (disability) Hired into the Federal Government!!!
I hired Kathyrn Troutman from ResumePlace.com to help improve my resume and interview skills for a higher-level government position. Kathyrn recommended that I should review the federal resume guidebook as an example to help improve my resume and guidance to help promote myself in the transition to a higher-paying position. The book contained a lot of examples from job title to accomplishments to organized structure in the resume. As a Schedule applicant in applying for the federal government position, it can be difficult but possible with the right skill sets and using its example from the book to provide a strong professional resume to present to hiring managers. In the course of 6 months, I have received 20 referred out of 35 applications that I have applied. 5 out of the referred were interviews and 2 out of the interviews were job offer. In the federal government, it takes a lot of time to process and one must be very patient to follow through. The federal resume guidebook is an excellent book to help follow through in the hiring process and getting a successful job position in the federal government.

BEWARE: Outline Format is dated
I find the insistence by the author to continue exclusive use of her coveted Outline Format resume writing style to be very questionable in 2022. Why? Because professional online Federal Resume Writing Services simply don't use her "Outline Format" at all anymore! They have a self-determined template they use to put your resume in usajobs.gov that's optimized for ATS (computer keyword scanning). So why are all these paid professionals snubbing the author's Outline Format? Good question. Feel free to answer. This 7e book also seems disjointed in layout. No easy flow. It lacks full federal resume examples and gives only snippets. The government change from KSA use to Core Competencies was addressed, but in an overwhelming impractical manner. You're told to use the Core Competencies with the other 13 things to put your full federal resume "puzzle" together! This is complicated enough. We need straight simple instructions, not resume puzzles.I'm disappointed a book with this many high reviews and accolades falls flat in 2022. I think it's good if you've never written a federal resume. However, if you're updating your existing federal resume in 2022 you better think twice first.

Worth the price to have as a desk reference
Useful information that will serve as a good desk side reference if you advise others or prepare resumes. I like how the author demystifies some of the myths and unknown regarding federal employment and how the Government evaluates resumes.Informative but lacking in a broader range of labor categories. Structure was a bit complicated to follow and seemed a bit unorganized with different formats appearing without sufficient context to provide practical application while writing or revising a complete resume.I would expect a focus on each part of the resume with step by step instructions for each, contextual examples by labor category, and stick to one method of presenting the resume information.

Good resource; Numerous typos and inconsistent formatting
5e has much more detailed information, but it's now dated and some of it is incorrect (Resumix is no longer used, for example, but it's referenced in 5e).6e tried to be more "reader friendly" by drastically changing the layout, but it also "dumbed down" some of the information and deleted a huge amount of useful content. There are also numerous typos and formatting issues, but it's a pretty good resource for someone who's rusty and/or needs a tutorial on USAJobs Resume Builder.6e needs more examples of currently acceptable/recommended resume formats, and fewer examples of the old unacceptable formats. It also needs more examples of complete resumes, rather than just 1-2 pages of a resume.Do yourself a favor and find a used copy of 5e as well as the current version.

Follow the instructions, be patient, and you will do well
By reading (and re-reading) this book, and carefully following the instructions to create the HR preferred outline style resume with keywords matched to the federal job announcement, you will significantly improve your chances of being referred to hiring managers. The book guides you through the steps to identify critical key words and integrate them into your duty/responsibility and accomplishment statements. The sample resumes are very helpful and make it straightforward to adapt the format and structure into your resume, provided you are willing to put in the time and effort to write the resume you deserve. The book is an excellent value and will serve as a valuable reference throughout your career.

Great resource to have when composing a Federal Resume
This is a great resource to have when composing a Federal Resume. As an IT Security Specialist, I found the sample IT resume for a IT specialist (INFOSEC) outstanding. It reads well and things are easy to find to see how the candidate meets all the requirements. I particularly like the capitalized key words from the job announcement and the details coming afterward. I highly recommend this book to assist with building your Federal Resume. Also the tools on the web site are very helpful:[...]Thanks , Randy McHugh

Helped me land a government job
Great tips! A Federal resume is so different from any others. I had originally borrowed this book from my library. I used it to write my resume and finally landed a government job! I truly think using this book helped me and I feel that using their format for listing significant accomplishments was the edge I needed. I ended up purchasing this for my sister-in-law because I truly swear by this book.
