What is the difference between the Taylor K-1000 and the K-1001?

The main picture for this product (K-1000) actually shows K-1001. K-1000 - has an all-yellow comparator for Cl/Br and uses orthotolidine (OT) as the reagent. K-1001 - has a pink comparator for Cl/Br and uses DPD as the reagent. There are differences between OT and DPD but I have trouble matching the colors and so personally I would go with the pink one (K-1001 using DPD) because it looks easier to distinguish the colors. All the yellows on the K-1000 comparator look too close for my eyes.

do the test blocks ever need replacing because of color changes?

Mine are over four years old and still fine. If they're stored in their box, I don't think the colors will change.

What are the expiration dates of these?

About a year. One season to another.

I can't find the kit that costs about $15 that includes total alkalinity, only the way too big $49 kit and this one. Is it online anywhere?
