Traditional Bypass Secateurs with Carbon Steel Blades

Always reliable secateurs
These Kent & Stowe secateurs are the only ones I will buy. I find that they fit comfortably in my hand, something that is important if I have a lot of pruning to do. Unlike other secateurs I have tried, the spring never detatches so they are always good to go. They give a clean cut and can handle fairly thick branches. The blades can discolour but that does not affect their use. A wipe over after use to remove sap, and a once a year clean and oil is all that’s needed. A good buy.

Sturdy but hard on the hands
These seem like a strong and sharp enough secateurs and they cut well enough. However the handles are straight and uncomfortable in use and the metal clip that holds them closed is a bit fiddly.

Handle grip has been addressed
I’m not a fan of the geared bypass pruners. Keep it simple. That’s what I like about these. Simple and sturdy. The slippery handle problem others have mentioned has now been addressed too. There is now a grey covering on the handles with more grip. Seems they just put this over the original covers.
