W.W. Denslow was the original artist for "The Wizard of Oz". After a falling out with the writer on that book over royalties for the stage play, he went on to illustrate a series of children's books. He is one of my favorite artists and the one of the last from the Golden Age of Children's Book Illustrations that began with Edward Leer and include names such as Ernest Shepard, Walter Crane, Arthur Rackham, Howard Pyle, Caldecott, and many, many more.
