CTA Tools3060 Bulb Pliers

A great idea. If only it worked.....
The indicator bulbs (neutral, high beam etc.) on my old motorcycle are impossible to get out without a tool of some kind. They are tiny wedge base bulbs buried deep in a rubber boot and require a firm grip to pull them out. Needle nose pliers sort of work but are risky - easy to break the bulb with those. This tool seemed like just the ticket, but no..... even with the rubber tips they slip right off the glass bulb. I tried adding some rosin to the tips to make them sticky but it didn't make any difference. They simply don't work in this application. If I had spent an hour wrapping various kinds of tape around the tips maybe I would have succeeded but I'm not that patient. I finally got the bulbs out using a u-shaped IC extractor. So don't expect too much from this tool, it didn't work for me and based on other reviews I see here, many other people had the same issue. It might be useful for some other task and seems to be well made, but it definitely won't extract tiny wedge base bulbs from an old Valkyrie.

Doesn’t really work as a pliers
Maybe as an expensive plastic crowbar

The plier worked for my application
I was expecting a thinner needle nose plier but at least it worked for what I wanted for. I removed the foam tips and lightly sanded the edges with a 1200 grid sand paper. I wanted to remove a plastic piston inside an item without damaging the surface or edges of the plastic piston. It seems to work fine. I might try later to reduce the thickness of the needle nose tip arms and see if that helps. At least it works for me. It looks solid plastic and well constructed. The spring can be removed if not needed which I already did. Again, for my application.

Under cabinet kitchen lights
I am changing out JC G4 halogen light bulb, 10-Watt, 12-Volt. They are 5/16" diameter x 1-3/32" length. Very tricky getting under the cabinet and the sockets face all different directions. By hand is a hassle. I tried another bulb puller/installer, but it was way too big and would not grasp the bulb. I got this and the jaws have a tiny rubber insert that does not rise above the jaws enough to grasp the thin glass bulb, so the bulb always slips out. So I ran 3-4" of electrical tape around the tip of each jaw and removed the spring from the pliers and that was enough to grasp and control inserting the bulb.

Save your money, it does not work on

Perfect for small bulbs
Great for use with small bulbs! I use this at work all the time to replace 1769 size bulbs in small sockets and it works perfect. The foam insert on the plier channel makes it perfect for working with small glass bulbs

I found to be a disappointment
The plier ends are not as soft as I expected and do not grip bulbs or fuses very well.I have not tested on mini blade fuses yet, so they may have a purpose?I would likely return them if I had a printer to make a return label

Good tool for a great value!
Perfect for 74 mini wedge bulbs! The foam padding in the jaws helps avoid crushing the bulb but still grippy enough to get a good grab. Great value in comparison to similar bulb pliers.
