Candy Slain Murder: A Jolly & Delightful Cozy Mystery (A Country Store Mystery)

Fun Cozy Mystery Series
I just love the town of South Lick, Indiana! Robbie Jordan's store and restaurant sound like a little slice of Heaven to me! This installment of this fun series is set at Christmas, which makes the book even more enjoyable to read. South Lick has been murder free for awhile, but a skeleton is discovered in an attic when a house burns. Robbie is just thankful she did not discover the body this time! Maddie Day does a great job of making this mystery series and this book fun to read with a great mystery built in. There are always plenty of suspects to choose from, and she does an excellent job of providing red herrings. The characters are also fun. I love Buck. He is a local officer with the police force with a voracious appetite! He loves Robbie's food! His little "quotes" are always funny as well and often have me laughing out loud! The end of the book provides a nice surprise which I look forward to learning more about in her next book in this series!

Candy Slain Cheer!
Robbie is a fun, lovable character who makes readers want to visit her wonderful pancake cafe and spend the Christmas season with her friends, family, and customers. In the newest addition to the "A Country Store Mystery" series, Candy Slain Murder, Maddie Day has made this series even more thrilling. It's almost Christmas in South Lick, and Robbie and crew are working on their newest creations at Pans ‘N pancakes. Everything seems to be going great until an unexpected murder, a long lost brother, and a handful of strange events leave Robbie stuck in the middle of another murder investigation. This time the murder I sold long before her time, but that doesn't make it any less important. Several mysteries need to be solved, but time is not a friend, and before you know it, there is another victim. Add in the unexpected introduction of Danna's brother, one she never knew she had, and you have the makings of a holiday story that will lift your spirits and keep you happy.Characters in this series have held the reader's fascination since the beginning. They keep the action moving, add flavor to the town, and keep readers happy. Suspects are found around every corner, and motives abound. Even with Christmas and the holiday season on the horizon, everyone knows Robbie will be knee-deep in whatever horrendous murder occurs. Readers know that Robbie will place herself in danger, solve the murder, and catch the bad guy.The killer isn't a surprise, but this book's ending will have fans smiling with holiday cheer. Candy Slain Murder is a quick, easy read that gives readers a chance to spend some quality time with the characters they have come to love. This latest addition to the series is the book everyone wants to read and savor this merry Christmas season.

The politics are distracting but it’s still a good book
I like this author and the way she writes — she’s a very gifted storyteller, but dang, her politics do get in the way of making this book a great read — for me.This particular book has so much potential for being REALLY great, but instead it settles into being just good. Maddie Day’s politics are very much weaved throughout the book. I’m neither right nor left, just a registered independent living in Middle America wanting to read a cozy mystery during the holiday season. We get enough politics everywhere else and I was looking for an escape. 🤷♀️ETA: I decided to edit my review and changed it from being 3 stars to 4, because regardless of what I wrote earlier, it is worthy of 4 stars even though it did have the potential for 5. I applaud the author for excellent character development and have grown to really like all the characters in this series and feel a connection to them. I can’t wait to get her final book; I pre-ordered it as soon as it was available to do so — that’s how much I like this series!

Christmas in South Lick ends happy for all
A festive Christmas season in South Lick is dampened by the discovery of a skeleton in a doctor's attic that appeared to be a cold case. Then to top that, another body turned up which kept Buck and his officers/detective busy as well as Robbie.I eventually figured out the one I thought whodunit, but the author is very good at throwing doubts into the story which I totally enjoy sifting through, so I read on and was happy with the outcome. The cold case victim wasn't the only one who got a nice ending in time for Christmas! And Danna got the employee spotlight as having a surprise visitor. I liked how that came out as well and look forward to seeing this person in future books.I do agree with other reviewers that the political and social comments/situations weren't necessary. I was very happy that the person got their punishment, but these types of things don't seem like they need to be mentioned in a cozy mystery especially at the happiest time of year. I tried to skim over all that stuff and simply enjoy the Christmasy goodness of the season with the food and decorations and rated according to story telling.
