I'm aware of the importance of this book in the field. Reading it in 2015, however, is frustrating. I am sure it was groundbreaking back in the day, but so much of it feels like common sense to anyone somewhat aware of how journalism has progressed in the past 15 years or so. I think the only additions to this edition are the words "blogger" and "Fox News" and a reversing the hierarchy chapters. It's unfortunate.

Easy and interesting read
relevant examples and good grasp on the history of it.

A must read for communication researchers
The book is at once profound and simple. Its structure is so logical, and the writing so clear and concise and peppered with so many engaging examples, that it makes for a quick and enjoyable read. The hierarchical model, first introduced by Shoemaker and Reese in their 1996 book and cited in so many studies, has been updated, as have all the examples and anecdotes. This should be on every communication researchers' bookshelf.
