Booksmart

Why surprising? Because, for me at least, at first glance it's got all the ingredients of the kind of thing I could happily live without: Over-privileged young Americans 'struggling' through high school is a theme that has been done before. A lot. It's always tempered by anyone with half a brain knowing that if these wasteful creeps were born anywhere else on the planet, things would be very different indeed. The genre usually shows us idiot boys abusing their parent's houses, cars and whining about their miniscule problems while being, well, just obscenely gross,. It's enough to make me want to step into the TV and punch their stupid faces. But Booksmart has very little in common with the whole 'American Pie'-like genre of twaddle (thank goodness) and is way better than the tiresome 'Ferris Bueller Forgets To Drown His Useless Self' (or whatever it's called). It is a bit nuts, there are house parties, young people being stupid, stuff getting broken and all the usual tropes but by subtle and clever means, it is less wanton, less abusive and somehow actually very charming. It's also properly funny and packed with good characters who are either delightful or if less so, at least they mostly redeem themselves. The lead actresses are brilliant as are several others, including the fascinating school teacher and the Uber driver. I'm not sure I can speak for the majority here, so if you like American Pie and Ferris Bueller, we just don't think alike, sorry, but if that stuff leaves you curling your lip, don't walk away from this, it's much, much, much better, mostly by being in a different league. Maybe 'Booksmart' is a clue, not just a title.

Not as good as I thought it would be bearing in mind the previous reviews. For me, there was too much sex stuff, didn’t need it. The two main girls were excellent, very talented, deserve to go far.

This is by far the best comedy I’ve seen in a long time. Inclusive and hilarious, not one to watch with your parents, but they will enjoy it also .

Laugh out loud funny.

as well as a laugh out loud script, really refreshing and surprising take on the High School movie.

perfect feel good coming of age comedy that feels authentic. incredible cast. 10/10 would recommend to anyone.
