Five "Starr", always!
Finally on CD, my favorite R&B band's 1978 debut album ( I was a Freshman in college at Creighton University, far from home in New York City ), finally sees the radiant light of day. With wonderful production by Bobby Eli ( he co-wrote "Love Won't Let Me Wait" with Vinnie Barrett for Major Harris in 1975! ), Atlantic Starr says "Stand Up", we've arrived. Simply terrific songs like "With Your Love I Come Alive", "Being In Love With You Is So Much Fun" (they performed this one, as well as "Stand Up", live on Soul Train ), "Keep It Comin", and two lovely, beautiful ballads, namely "(I'll Never Miss) The Love I Never Had" and "We Got It Together" (with lead vocals by David E. Lewis and Sharon A. Bryant, respectively), make their maiden voyage a very smooth Atlantic crossing! Remember this was 1978, and there were never two better decades for music than the 1960's and 1970's, hands down ( I will even include the 1980's as my third spot ), and the years 1978-1979 were full of great disco and ballads alike. You will never see groups quite like the voices that graced the airwaves between 1973-1985 in R&B again: Artists like Phyllis Hyman, Angela Bofill, The Whispers, The Temptations, Gladys Knight And The Pips, Luther Vandross, Major Harris, The Stylistics, Blue Magic, Marvin Gaye, Deniece Williams, The Four Tops, Voyage, and Atlantic Starr, just to name a few. Today the so-called artists usually depend on "sampling" a masterpiece of the past to even think of beginning to write a song. They should learn from the artists that came before them, and spend a little more time writing and a lot less time texting! Texting will pass, writing will remain. That is such a bygone era, and am I glad I still have the vinyl and now the CD's to play at home and in my car, especially on a drive out to Long Island. These artists kept me company through many hard times in my life with their beautiful lyrics and melodies. Even as I am now writing a novel on The Beatles, I celebrated all the great R&B artists who were around during their time and after The Beatles disbanded. Atlantic Starr would go on to record "great" songs, including 1979's "(Let's) Rock and Roll, 1981's "Send For Me" and "When Love Calls", 1982's "Circles", 1983's "Touch A Four Leaf Clover", 1985's "Silver Shadow", 1986's "Secret Lovers" and "If Your Heart Isn't In It", 1987's "Always", 1988's "Let The Sun In", 1989's "My Sugar", 1991's "Love Crazy", and 1992's "Masterpiece". Hailing from White Plains, they were New York's R&B band. Their stage presence alone showed not only a band with a great talent, but people who were of substance. Thank you, Atlantic Starr, for being "Five Starr", always! Dr. Paul A. Racioppi, Jr. Brooklyn, New York

Been Search for This CD
I love this album (CD) lol!! I have this album and I bought it in 1978 when it first debuted and I have loved it ever since! I"ve been searching for this particular CD and I was unsuccessful in locating it, but I thought I would take another look and I almost fell off my chair when I saw it featured. I specifically love "With Your Love I Come Alive". It is a beautiful ballad. Atlantic Starr was an amazing group that kept on making great hits. I was surprised to see that they had so many albums. I'm happy now!BeverlyLas Vegas

Some of the Greatest songs
I chose this rating because I found some of these songs to be the greatest of all time. I liked this music because the lyrics and music is some of the best with good melody and harmony. I would highly recommend this CD to any and all that like R&B.

'A Great Listening Set'
'Time' may have turned out to be up for Atlantic Starr after the release of this album but the groups 10th and final album, did at least finish things on a high. Why this excellent set only reached no 80 on the U.S R&B charts and spawned only one U.S R&B hit single in opener I'll Remember You (U.S R&B no 58) remains a mystery to me as there is plenty here to delight both long standing fans of the band and lovers of great soul. Aforementioned 'Ill Remember You' is a sentimental but not slushy song about first love and one that lyrically a lot of people will relate to. Next track 'Everybody's Got Summer' (A top forty hit here in the U.K) is much more dance floor but in the context of the album sits nicely between I R Y and the albums other cracking ballad 'My Best Friend'. Vocally the group are superb throughout and (for once) Atlantic Starr seem to stick in the main (Let's Just Stick Around' and 'Animal Attraction' are dancers) to the type of material that they always were best at (mid tempo soul and ballads). Also nice are the poignant (but happy) title track, commercial sounding tripper 'So Good To Come Home To' and the gentle finger clicking 'Baby Be There'. A fitting tribute to a great band.
