Q: Will putting it in the refrigerator damage it?

I have a different one and bought this one as a gift. I don't imagine that it would be a problem- it is plastic and metal. It is insulated, so the cold would take a long time to get thru. If you wanted to pre chill it, you should probably open it up,

Yes. It is very hard to open. I would not recommend the cylinder in your case, maybe try the box shaped one, my cousin has that and no complaints there. As for returns I am not sure.
