Fanciful garden. My trees just never grew no matter HOW much candy and goodies I planted!
The illustrations in this series are fantastic! Children will love the colorful trees in Ruby's back yard - well, after they're cleaned up a bit. Something is dreadfully wrong. The Amber Fairies usually keep everything in tip top shape, but this is a mess! Ruby simply MUST investigate! As it happens, the fairies are out of pixie dust. No flying, and no keeping up Ruby's imaginative garden of fanciful trees. No dust? No problem! Ruby waves her wand and POP - pixie dust everywhere! Back to work for the fairies, but they don't mind: they like helping Ruby. She likes helping them, too. That's why she has a little surprise for them. One thing I just didn't understand. If Ruby could magically make pixie dust, why couldn't she just magically fix the trees? Of course that wouldn't have been useful in teaching children we should help each other. I think it really is important to know that we really can't do everything by ourselves: we need each other. (No man is an island and all that stuff we learned in school.... Or as Barbra belted it out loud and strong, "People who need people....") It really is true.Great book that will definitely hold a child's attention while teaching one of life's lessons without even needing "a spoonful of sugar" (although one good treat off any one of Ruby's trees would be more sugar than needed.) Nope, this lesson will go down with a smile all on its own.

Helping Cements Friendships
In this vividly Illustrated story, Ruby is preparing her yard for a festival. She is quite dismayed when she finds the trees in her back garden in disrepair. Usually, the Amber Fairies help keep her yard and trees looking beautiful. When she knocks on their door at the bottom of the donut tree, there's no answer. She soon finds them on the cinnamon stick logs; they tell her they are out of fairy dust, so they can't fly and work on her garden. Using her whirly-swirly wand, she is able to magically create fairy dust. The Amber Fairies immediately set to putting the garden aright again. Ruby then creates a fairy dust fountain just for them so they will never run out. The next day, Ruby finds a gift of amber for her from her fairy friends. This book has a lovely theme about helping and how it can be mutually beneficial, building friendships. I loved the trees that Ruby had in her backyard. They are so imaginative. They grow unique things, like peppermint candy, gingerbread with gumdrops, donuts, ribbon candy, and candy of all sorts. The character of Ruby the Rainbow Witch is just adorable, and the illustrator has done a superb job fashioning a unique character with her mass of curly hair, rainbow dress, and whirly-swirly wand. A sweet and beautifully illustrated book.

Wonderful book, great message, sweet little witch!
I love this book and my daughter is such a huge fan! The witch is written and illustrated as a really kind, lovely character and that fascinated my daughter because she is used to the traditional look of a witch and this one is different and precious. She is empathetic and demonstrates helpfulness, which was an excellent lesson for my daughter. The book is written in a way that stuck with her and she has asked to read it over and over. We loved it and will be purchasing the other two in the series. Highly recommend!

Hansel and Gretel fans are in for a treat!
This book made me feel hungry! It was entertaining for three reasons:1) The illustrations in the story were amazing! Children will enjoy the intricate details and the time the illustrator has taken to create the images.2) The details regarding the candy - from the names to where they grew - these details will fascinate many children that choose to read the story!3) The message - helping others is good - is something a lot of children need to imbibe. The story conveys this well.Definitely a visual delight!

An Extra Sweet Story
This book is a delight for the eyes, mind, and (imaginatively, at least) the tongue. There are so many tasty-looking treats in Ruby’s garden, you’ll want to have a plate of cookies on hand. See how Ruby helps her friends and they help her in return in this colorful tale.

A fun series with wonderful illustrations
Ruby has got to be the most colourful witch I know, and young kids will love the bright pictures in this fun series. In this story, Ruby needs the help of her fairy friends to tidy up the candy trees in her garden. She ends up solving their fairy dust problems with her “swirly-whirly wand”, and reminds herself that helping others is a sure way to have a “picture-perfect rainbow day”! A comforting story for little ones, with an important message. The alliterative text that will have you smiling.
