Amazing art
Great read and better art the textures in the monsters alone would have justified this purchase for me

Fun broad take on the source material
This is... cute. The artist and author's take on Lovecraftian Mythos creatures. Not really my take on the supernatural aspects of it. I dont like the taxonomy and supposed nailing down. The "this is how it all works" and explainations and discussions of lineage and pseudoscience/occult knowledge come off as trite, in my opinion, and deviate too far from the sources, but it's a nicely created book and I like the art well enough. It's worth adding to my expansive Lovecraftian and Cthulhiana shelves, but a smaller or more curated collection might not find it worthwhile. This is the kind of thing people who believe that the Necronomicon is real will gravitate to as actual occult "nonfiction," when in truth it has only limited basis in actual Lovecraftiana and is a broad interpretation of the famed writer's works and themes. It's by no means a sourcebook or reference volume. It's just Lovecraftian inspired art and accompanying pretty cohessive (which is part of my issue with it) occult babble. Which is fine.

A volume of ancient Sumarian burial practices and funerary incantations ...
A volume of ancient Sumarian burial practices and funerary incantations. It is entitled "Naturum De Montum", roughly translated: Book of the Dead. The book is bound in human flesh and inked in human blood. It deals with demons and demon resurrection and those forces which roam the forest and dark bowers of Man's domain. The first few pages warn that these enduring creatures may lie dormant but are never truly dead.

Bellissimo!

A Lovecraftian gem!
I picked this book up purely because of the cover art, and I'm very glad I did. The book is hidden gem, crammed full of Lovecraftian goodness and beautifully twisted art. The text is a sort of naturalists (supernaturalists?) guide to many horrible creatures that creep from the shadows between the dimensions to warp and distort our reality. In this it's very similar to the classic Petersen's Field Guide to Cthulhu Monsters, but it's less slavishly adherent to the words of H.P. Lovecraft while staying closer to the spirit of his works. If you're a fan of cosmic horror, you should definitely check this out. Highly recommended.
