Probably the most comprehensive religious history of Iran available.
This book is one of the few but clearly best one in regards to the fascinating and complex history of religions in the Iranian world. This splendid book in 19 chapters covers the entire scope of religious movements and ideas from prehistory right up into today. Iranian sounds like it only covers modern Iran but this book also covers the Iranian influence which encompasses Central Asia, South Asia, the Caucasus, and East Asia. The book gives a comprehensive history of Zoroastrianism, Persianate Islam, Manichaeism, Christianity, Judaism , Buddhism and many lesser-known religions. One of the few books that is devoted to religion in the Iranian world. Considering the enjoyable and accessible prose of the book, I would gladly recommend this book to scholars, students, and curious readers alike.

Absolutely facinating!
Who knew that so much of the heart of Christianity was imported from, or filtered through, the older religions of Iran! There really is very little new under the sun.

Great book
Another great book from Professor Foltz. I highly recommend this book. If you read and liked Spirituality in the land of the Nobles you would certainly like this one more.
